摘要: An oil resistant article is described that does not contain any fluorocarbon compounds. The oil resistant article includes a basesheet formed from pulp fibers. The basesheet is coated on at least one surface with an oil resistant coating. The basesheet is formed without having to use any highly refined fibers. Various chemical treatments are incorporated into the basesheet and the oil resistant coating is formed from particularly selected polymers that produces an oil resistant article having a relatively high permeability and excellent oil resistant properties.

摘要: Processes disclosed are capable of converting biomass into high-crystallinity, hydrophobic cellulose. In some variations, the process includes fractionating biomass with an acid (such as sulfur dioxide), a solvent (such as ethanol), and water, to generate cellulose-rich solids and a liquid containing hemicellulose and lignin; and depositing lignin onto cellulose fibers to produce lignin-coated cellulose materials (such as dissolving pulp). The crystallinity of the cellulose material may be 80% or higher, translating into good reinforcing properties for composites. Optionally, sugars derived from amorphous cellulose and hemicellulose may be separately fermented, such as to monomers for various polymers. These polymers may be combined with the hydrophobic cellulose to form completely renewable composites.

摘要: Embodiments of the present description provide methods for increasing the concentration of carboxymethylcellulose alkali solutions that are particularly suitable for use in a high solids paper coating, barrier materials, etc. Generally described, the method includes dissolving carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and an alkali salt in water to obtain an alkali solution of CMC. The CMC desirably has a degree of substitution less than about 0.9. The alkali solution of CMC includes CMC in a concentration greater than about 9.8% by weight, has a pH from about 7.5 to about 11, and is characterized as having a viscosity of less than about 5,000 mPa.

摘要: The present disclosure provides a stable aqueous composition comprising an aqueous component, a hydrophobic complex comprised of a multivalent metal salt complexed with nanocellulose fibers and lignin, with the composition exhibiting a viscosity sufficient to prevent coalescing and settling of the hydrophobic complex in the aqueous component. The composition may be used to coat surfaces of articles to produce a hydrophobic surface. Once applied to the surface, the aqueous coating is spread to form a wet film covering the surface and is then dewatered and dried to produce a dried hydrophobic coating.

摘要: A method and apparatus for manufacturing food wrap paper. A paper web is formed and its first side is subjected to on-line surface treating by applying barrier material such that a water vapor and grease resistant barrier coating is formed onto the paper web. The forming and on-line surface treating are made so that after the on-line surface treating, the paper web has basis weight of 25.5 g/m2 to 34 g/m2 when measured in balance moisture.

摘要: The present disclosure provides a print medium, a printed article, and a method of printing. The print medium can include a thin paper substrate having weight ranging from 40 GSM to 150 GSM, and a pre-treatment coating applied to the thin paper substrate at a weight ranging from 0.3 GSM to 15 GSM. The pre-treatment coating can include from 10 wt % to 80 wt % of a fixer, from 3 wt % to 50 wt % of a latex polymer, and from 5 wt % to 50 wt % of a water holding agent.

摘要: A reaction product is obtained by free-radical emulsion polymerization in an aqueous medium of ethylenically unsaturated monomers including at least one conjugated diene. The free-radical emulsion polymerization is conducted in the presence of a degraded polysaccharide having a DE of 38 to 70 measured according to ISO 5377 (1981 Feb. 15) and optionally an alkyl mercaptan in an amount of no more than 2.5 weight percent based on the total weight of ethylenically unsaturated monomers. A coating composition includes the reaction product, and a paper or a board can be coated with such a coating composition.
