The aqueous hydraulic fluid composition contains less than about 20% by weight (preferably none or substantially none) of an oil selected from the group consisting of mineral oils, synthetic hydrocarbon oils, and mixtures thereof. The use of alkoxylate salts provides increased lubricity and also acts as an emulsion stabilizer for the composition.

A subterranean clay-containing formation may be treated with the ionic liquid by contacting the formation with a well treatment composition containing the ionic liquid dispersed or dissolved in a carrier fluid. The carbonates and/or bicarbonates are easily added in powder or other finely divided solid form and are completely dissolved in the brine prior to pumping the brine into a subterranean formation.

The concentration of the initial solution is not higher than 60 wt %, typically 52 wt %, and is brought to from 65 to 78 wt %. The said Calcium Hydrates are mainly tetrahydrate Calcium Bromide. The Solid Calcium Hydrates have many uses in the processing of oil wells, for instance preparation of completion fluids, work-over fluids or drill-in fluids in the processing of wells, restoring already used and/or depleted such fluids to the desired, original density. They also have other uses, particularly for soil remediation.

Improved mud additive compositions are provided which are especially formulated to control hole enlargement due to salt bed erosion during drilling, and to assist in solubilization of deposited salt during well operations. The compositions include a first ingredient such as sodium or potassium ferrocyanide and mixtures thereof, and a second ingredient such as the a phosphonic acid, alkali or alkaline earth metal phosphonic acid salts, or mixtures thereof. The first ingredient is generally present at a level of from about 50-95% by weight in the particulate, dilutable form of the invention, whereas the second ingredient is present at a level of from about 5-50% by weight. The compositions hereof may be added to drilling mud during drilling operations or to fresh water for removing salt depositions.
