    Abstract: A plasma display panel (PDP) having a simple manufacturing process, and improved discharge stability, brightness, and light emission efficiency is disclosed. In one embodiment, the PDP includes i) an upper substrate and a lower substrate facing each other, ii) a plurality of barrier ribs disposed between the upper substrate and the lower substrate to define a plurality of discharge cells together with the upper substrate and the lower substrate, iii) at least one pair of discharge electrodes that generate a discharge and extend across the discharge cells consecutively disposed in one direction, iv) a plurality of address electrodes disposed to cross the discharge electrodes across the discharge cells consecutively disposed in another direction v) an upper dielectric layer and a lower dielectric layer respectively covering at least one pair of discharge electrodes and the address electrodes; a fluorescent layer disposed in the discharge cells, and vi) a discharge gas filled in the discharge cells. In one embodiment, each discharge electrode includes a plurality of substantially semi-circular concave portions each of which is formed in a direction generally facing the center area, in a plane which is substantially parallel to the substrates, of a respective discharge cell.

    Abstract: A driving electrode structure of a plasma display panel is described. The driving electrode structure has a driving electrode located in one luminant cell of each pixel. The driving electrode is formed on a transparent electrode and separated by a distance from the side of the transparent electrode adjacent to the edge of the luminant cells. The driving electrode has two branches coupled to a main electrode or a side electrode at the side of the transparent electrode adjacent to the edge of luminant cells. The driving electrode approximates the discharge center of the luminant cell to improve the driving characteristic.

    Abstract: A row electrode in a row electrode pair has a bus electrode extending in the row direction and transparent electrodes each facing a transparent electrode in its counterpart row electrode in each discharge cell. The opposing portions of the transparent electrodes facing each other across a discharge gap are inclined at a required angle either in the clockwise direction or the counterclockwise direction relative to the row direction of the panel. The transparent electrodes with the opposing portions inclined in opposite directions are arranged in alternate positions along the associated bus electrodes and the transparent electrodes with the opposing portions inclined in the same direction face each other.

    Abstract: One embodiment of the invention provides a plasma display panel (PDP), which has a remarkably high transmittance of visible light and thus, high brightness, in which a stable and efficient discharge can be achieved at a low voltage driving, thereby allowing for low production costs, and which has an extended lifetime since a reduced number of ions collide with fluorescent materials by preventing ion sputtering. In one embodiment, the PDP includes: i) a front substrate and a rear substrate facing each other, ii) barrier ribs made of a dielectric material and arranged between the front substrate and the rear substrate to define discharge cells in which a discharge occurs, iii) first electrodes arranged in the barrier ribs to surround first corner portions of the discharge cells, iv) second electrodes arranged in the barrier ribs to surround second corner portions of the discharge cells, the second corner portions being diagonally opposite to the first corner portions surrounded by the first electrodes, and the second electrodes facing the first electrodes in the discharge cells and being separated from the first electrodes, v) fluorescent layers arranged in the discharge cells, and vi) a discharge gas provided in the discharge cells.

    Abstract: A plasma display panel includes a pair of substrates that are arranged opposite to each other, each having a display region to display an image and a non-display region not to display an image. Barrier ribs are located in a space between the substrates for forming a plurality of discharge cells. Phosphor layers are formed in the discharge cells. Address electrodes are formed on one of the substrates. First and second electrodes are formed on the other substrate so as to extend in a direction orthogonal to the address electrodes and are spaced apart from each other to form discharge gaps in the discharge cells.     Abstract: A specially designed transparent electrode for plasma display panel is disclosed. The transparent electrodes are disposed in pairs on the front glass substrate of the panel spaced apart and parallel to each other. The paired transparent electrodes X and Y are characterized by having respectively an extension member Xn and an extension member Yn projected from the opposing side of a strip-shaped base corresponding to each discharge cell of the panel.
