    摘要: An inexpensive, efficient seal member having a tubular housing member that can be integral to or attached to a frame of a motor to form a ring seal around the shaft of the motor prior to mating the shaft with a pump or other driven device. The flexible elastomer washer member is located in a pocket at the end of the housing. The inner diameter of the flexible elastomer washer member is smaller than the shaft diameter. The thickness of the flexible elastomer washer member is larger than the depth of the pocket and is held in the pocket by a resilient retaining member having a plurality of tangs forming an interference fit with the walls of the housing. Next, the shaft is slidably extended through the flexible elastomer washer member forming the ring seal.

    摘要: The seal or pattern between two machine parts has on one of the sealing gap-forming, facing surfaces (5) a plastic layer (1) with closely juxtaposed depressions (8) which have the form of partly cut off voids of an expanded plastic structure. They are formed by the removal of a plastic layer (3) expanded on the machine part, the layer thickness being so uniformly reduced that the voids (4) of the bottom void layer (4) adjacent to the base surface (5) of the machine part are open. This avoids the insulating action of the closed voids of an expanded plastic layer and the latter has a very limited weight, which avoids any risk of the layer being detached or separated due to centrifugal forces. Moreover, in simple manner, a honeycomb-like, open surface structure is obtained, so that there is a labyrinth effect in the sealing gap. In order to obtain minimum, sealing gaps by running in the open, honeycomb-like surface structure is particularly advantageous, because the solely linear contact which occurs ensures a rapid running in of the mating surface, which can be abrasively prepared. The seal or packing is particularly suitable for very rapidly rotating machine parts.

    摘要: A method of manufacturing a steel plate for a steel laminate gasket comprises applying a first seal coating consecutively on at least one side of a base plate in the shape substantially the same as that of an actual steel plate for constituting the gasket. After the first seal coating on the base plate is dried, the base plate is pressed or cut to form a plurality of steel plates. Each steel plate has a configuration as in the actual steel plate, an outer surface formed by the first seal coating on the entire one side thereof and a plurality of holes therein. When a steel laminate gasket is formed, the steel plate with the seal coating thereon is stacked with other steel plates so that the seal coating is located between the two steel plates.

    摘要: Apparatus and system for making positive locking sealing rings having interengagable ring end notches with mating surfaces thereof at closely precise angles of intersection. In a preferred form, interal notch end faces, and ring terminal ends, are parallel and disposed at a slight angle to the ring axis to provide a positive angular interlock between the notches in a free hooked condition. The term "free hooked" as used herein means latched but not confined in a final assembly. The rings, including notches and ring terminal ends, are formed automatically in the apparatus of the invention by a unitized multiple component or faced cutter, such as a milling cutter. The cutting surfaces and cutter unit for the angled face notch design are advanced at an angle to the ring axis equal to the angles of the notch face surfaces. The cutter element faces are so formed, disposed, and the cutter so controlled, preferably in a so-called single plunge notch cutting operation, as to insure a preserved uniform ring material section below the notch base for ring strength.The machine used includes a ring blank loading station, two cutting stations for top and bottom hook cuts, a composite unloading-hooking station, a hooked ring catcher unit, and an index unit for transfer of parts under each station. A programmable controller function to control the operating cycle. Preferably, a circular design is used, although a linear configuration is possible.

    摘要: A method of applying a refractory coating or facing to a ferrous metal substrate that is in the form of a finished article, such as that of a piston seal or the like, and that has sections of such small dimensions as to be easily distorted by heat. The method includes an induction heating step carried out under conditions so controlled as to effect a bond of greatly improved strength in shear between the coating and substrate without, however, causing heat distortion of even the small dimensioned sections beyond functionally permissible limits. An agent capable of effecting diffusion bonding, such as free nickel, or an alloy or mixtures containing free nickel or an equivalent bonding element, is made available at the interface in the coating and substrate to facilitate the obtaining of such greatly improved bond as a result of the induction heating step. The bond obtained is in excess of 10,000 psi in shear and generally equal to or in excess of the tensile strength of the refractory coating.
