Abstract: A wire pulling assembly for pulling a wire carrying tooling through an underground environment. The pulling assembly includes a cyclical vise carried by one or more hydraulic cylinders attached to a frame. The cylinders have a pulling stroke and a retraction stroke. A powered reel is used to store the wire as it is removed from the ground. During a pulling stroke, the reel is hydraulically isolated such that cable is stripped from the reel with tension maintained in the cable. During a retraction stroke, a motor turns the reel to load excess cable onto the reel.

Abstract: A pipe loosening device and methods are shown. In one example, the pipe loosening device enables a method wherein a pipe to be replaced is deformed but not burst, and a portion of a sidewall of the pipe is forced outward into the surrounding soil to compact a local region of the surrounding soil and loosen the existing pipe. The pipe may then pulled from the ground along an axis of the pipe.

Abstract: A pullhead includes a housing that has a first end and a second end. The housing is separable between a first body and a second body. The first and second bodies are pivotally coupled at a joint and the first and second bodies together define an interior pocket of the housing. The interior pocket has an interior pocket width. The pullhead head includes a pulling feature at the first end. The interior pocket includes an interior retainer flange that has an inner width and is disposed within the interior pocket. The inner width is less than the interior pocket width. The first body and second body are pivotable relative to each other around an axis at the joint that is transverse to a pulling direction.

Attaching the adaptor to the pipe end prior to the pipe being pulled underground is faster and reduces danger to workers compared to the conventional process of attaching the adaptor to the end of the pipe after the pipe has been pulled underground.

Abstract: A pipe laying machine for laying a pipe in a trench, includes a first self-propelled chassis (10) on which a driver's cab (11) and powertrain (12) are located, a beam (20) connected at a first end (20a) to the chassis and which extends laterally therefrom, a second moving chassis (30) connected at a second end (20b) of the beam and a guiding and supporting element (40) of a pipe, sliding on the beam toward and away from the self-propelled chassis, in which the self-propelled chassis can travel on a track (P) at the edge of the trench, the moving chassis (30) can travel on the bottom of the trench, and the guiding and supporting element can translate to carry the pipe to the trench so that by moving the machine forward along a direction of forward movement the cantilevered portion of pipe is laid on the bottom of the trench.
