    摘要: Apparatus for successively projecting a light beam through articles of produce on a moving conveyor. The apparatus is useful in an internal quality produce grader for grading agricultural products according to one or more internal characteristics.The apparatus is comprised of two cylinders positioned on opposite sides of a conveyor which carries uniformly spaced articles of produce in a single row past an inspection position. The cylinders have a plurality of equiangularly spaced apertures in their walls. The apertures are at the same vertical height as the produce on the conveyor. A bellows-like, tubular light shield of opaque, flexible, elastomeric material is disposed in each aperture and extends radially therefrom. The cylinders rotate in synchronism with the movement of the produce on the conveyor and when each article of produce is at the inspection position a pair of light shields, one from each cylinder, is aligned along an axis with the article. The light shields yieldingly engage the article.A light source on one side of the conveyor directs a light beam along the axis and through the aligned light shields and article. A photodetector on the other side of the conveyor receives light transmitted through the aligned light shields and article.

    摘要: This invention relates to an apparatus and a method for determining the concentration of a first reactant in a medium. A disc is saturated with a solution containing the first reactant and immersed into a second reactant fluid. A chemical reaction occurs between the first and second reactants to produce a gas which is trapped by the disc. The disc is buoyed to the surface of the second reactant fluid by the gas produced. The process is electronically timed using photocells to start and stop an electronic clock and a digital display displays the time elapsed in tenths of seconds.

    摘要: A system for detecting the edges of a moving object is disclosed having a high flux density light beam directed through two relatively long narrow light beam apertures and focused on a detector to saturate the output of the detector. When the moving object interrupts the light beam, the detector remains saturated until the moving object nearly intersects the entire light beam to thereby deactivate the detector at a precisely defined predetermined location within the light beam. The moving object reactivates the detector when its trailing edge intersects the light beam at a second precisely defined location within the light beam. An amplifier operating in saturation mode is coupled to the output of the detector to provide the added feature of switching its output when the object is at very precisely defined locations within the light beam. A computer system is coupled to the output of the amplifier to provide a pulse count to measure the time duration of the inactivity of the amplifier and to compute various physical parameters of the moving object such as velocity.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to an apparatus for automatically examining hardware items progressing along a track to detect their characteristics and automatically sort the items in accordance with their characteristics. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention there is provided a nut inspection apparatus for monitoring the height of nuts, the apparatus being adaptable to also determine if threading is present on the inner surface of the nuts. In this embodiment there is provided a ramp for carrying the nuts, the ramp having a slot which defines an inspection position. A laser beam is split into first and second beams and adjustable means are provided for directing the first beam transverse the ramp and over the slot at the inspection position, the means being adjustable to a predetermined position above the ramp. A first photodetector is provided for receiving the first beam in the absence of a nut of prescribed height at the inspection position. Means are provided for directing the second beam toward the inner surface of a nut at the inspection position. A second photodetector is provided for receiving through the slot the light reflected from the inner surface of the nut. Means enabled by the output of the second photodetector are provided as being responsive to the output of the first photodetector for generating a height monitoring occurrence indication. Also, means enabled by the output of the first photodetector are provided for generating a thread indicative occurrence indication when the output of the second photodetector exceeds a predetermined threshold level.
