    摘要: A plastic part has a broad surface area for solvent bonding to another plastic part; the bonding surface has a groove, recess, or non-dissolvable portion for restricting the solvent to a narrow marginal edge area for uniform distribution. In one embodiment, a plastic hinge (FIG. 2) and two hinged members (64,66) are pivotally interconnected by the leaves. Grooves (52, 54) are formed on the mating surface of hinge halves. These grooves define and isolate marginal portions (56, 58) on the faces of the leaves from inner portions (60, 62). The grooves act as barriers to prevent penetration of a solvent, used for bonding the hinge leaves to the two hinged members, from the inner support portions of the leaves. When the solvent is injected into the area of contact between the mating plastic parts from the outer edge of each hinge element, e.g., by a syringe, it wets and dissolves the marginal portions and the underlying areas of the two hinged members but is restricted to the marginal areas by the grooves. Thus a plastic hinge can be bonded without mechanical fasteners and provides aesthetic consistency with the hinged members. The marginal bonding area can also be isolated by means of a recessed inner portion (84) and the principle of the invention can be used for other solvent bonded elements with broad faces, such as drawer pulls (FIG. 7) and latches (FIG. 8).

    摘要: The cabinet hinge mounting plate can be fastened to a cabinet wall by means of screws passing through openings provided in it in the form of slots. The slots are configured such that the screws associated with each of them, which are threaded only on a portion of their length but have an unthreaded section adjacent the screw head, will be held temporarily by their threaded portion in a central position in the length of the slot, but when they are driven all the way in they will be displaceable lengthwise of the slot. The slots have in the area of their central portion projections protruding each toward the opposite slot edge for the purpose of holding the crests of the threads of the associated fastening screws. At their upper side facing the head of the screws the slots are provided with a rebate which is engaged by a centering section of the screw, which is formed in the transition between the head and the shaft of the screw. The diameter of the centering section corresponds substantially to the full width of the rebate.

In this manner, the case assembly may be disposed in horizontal position upon a horizontal table to be used as a podium, with the marginal edge portions of the case halves swingable toward and away from each other facing a person disposed adjacent the table and the top surface of the horizontally disposed case, when the case is closed, facing rearwardly and upwardly toward the aforementioned person while still enabling that person to gain access to the interior of the case from the adjacent side thereof merely by upwardly swinging the adjacent edge of the upper case half away from the corresponding edge of the lower case half.
