    摘要: The invention includes a composition when used for the subsequent prprat ion of an egg white foam, characterised in that the composition includes an amount of egg white material and at least one thickener. The amount of thickener(s) is at least about 2.0% w/w in the composition and the composition has been heat treated at or above about 40° C. prior to preparing the egg white foam. The invention also encompasses method of use, novel food produds, cooked or uncooked, and methods of manufacture.

    摘要: A directional microphone system includes an ultrasonic emitter and receiver. The emitter directs a beam of ultrasound at the audio source with sufficient intensity that non-linear air effects cause non-linear interactions between the ultrasonic sound and the source's sonic sound. Ultrasonic frequency-mired sounds are thereby generated and these are received by the ultrasonic receiver. Signal-processing is carried out on the received signals to strip out the audio signals. The emitter and receiver may be co-located and the emitted beam may be focussed at the location of the audio source. The receiver may also be directional acid focussable. The directional microphone system may be very small and yet highly directional at sonic including low audible frequencies.

    摘要: A variable focal length lens, comprises a chamber arrangement containing two transparent liquids adjacent one another with an interface therebetween, the chamber arrangement allowing light to pass along an optical axis through the transparent liquids and across the interface, the lens focusing the passing light. A piezoelectric actuator is arranged, on activation, to change the pressure of one of the liquids so that the interface moves, for example by changing shape, to change the focal length of the lens.

    摘要: Non-planar acoustic arrays are disclosed in which the plurality of transducers lie on a curved surface. The curved surface preferably subtends at least 90° and, in a preferred embodiment of the invention is a closed convex surface such as a cylinder. The curvature of the surface allows beams to be directed in a greater variety of directions. Apparatus and methods are disclosed in which only certain of the transducers are used for beam-forming, in accordance with the position of the transducer relative to the desired beam.

    摘要: An equivalent to the spatial separation either side of a nominal median plane that is inherent in a bimorph (with one piezoelectric layer on one side, and the second on the other side of the plane) is attained by structurally shaping the cross-section of a simple, single piezoelectric layer (11) such that it has a multiplicity of piezoelectric portions arranged in two generally-planar groups one either side of a median plane, so that any dimension change undergone by a portion on one side of that plane will tend to bend the whole device in the opposite direction to the same sense dimension change undergone by a portion on the other side of that plane. The simple, single layer acts as though it were a bimorph if elongate and beam-like, bending along its length, one end moving up/down, or back/forth, relative to the other but with any need for an internal, electrode.
