Abstract: A system and method for assisting selective hearing includes a detector for detecting an audio source signal portion of one or more audio sources by using at least two received microphone signals of a hearing environment. A position determiner allocates position information to each of the one or more audio sources. An audio type classifier assigns an audio source signal type to the audio source signal portion of each of the one or more audio sources. A signal portion modifier varies the audio source signal portion of at least one audio source of the one or more audio sources depending on the audio signal type of the audio source signal portion of the at least one audio source so as to obtain a modified audio signal portion of the at least one audio source. The system includes a signal generator.

Abstract: There is described a method for synchronizing a viewer-effect signal of a media content with a media signal of the media content. The method generally has: capturing an audio portion of the media signal from a surrounding environment using a microphone; obtaining a fingerprint from the captured audio portion of the media signal; from reference fingerprints associated with reference time positions of at least a reference media content, identifying a time position of the media content corresponding to the obtained fingerprint; obtaining the viewer-effect signal associated with the identified time position of the media content; and outputting the viewer-effect signal synchronized with the media signal using the identified time position of the media content for producing an effect to a viewer in synchronization with the media signal of the media content.

Abstract: A method for feedforward noise cancellation in an enclosed space within a structure is provided. The method comprises placing a microphone array inside an inner surface of the enclosed space and conducting modal testing on an outside surface of the enclosed space, wherein the modal testing comprises multiple incoherent noise sources corresponding to locations of microphones in the microphone array. Noise generated by the modal testing is processed to create a number of acoustic mathematical models of the enclosed space. In response to incoherent noise within the enclosed space, a noise canceling signal is generated according to an output of the mathematical models.

Abstract: The image detecting apparatus including an image capturing device, a microphone array and a processing circuit is provided. The image capturing device captures an image. The microphone array detects a voice source. The processing circuit performs a voice activity detection on a first number of voice signals captured by the microphone devices to determine whether the voice source is a preset type voice. The processing circuit performs a beamforming operation on a second number of voice signals captured by the microphone devices to generate a region of interest (ROI) setting signal when the voice source is the preset type voice. The ROI setting signal indicates a location of the voice source in the image. The processing circuit performs an image detecting operation on a ROI image. The ROI image is determined according to the image and the ROI setting signal. The first number is smaller than the second number.
