摘要： A pear processing method and apparatus is provided which includes several mechanisms for properly orienting the pear prior to coring, peeling and seed celling of the pear. Each pear is tumbled between a pair of orienting rolls to a position wherein the stem of the pear is oriented downwardly. Whiskers on one of the rolls speed up this orienting of the pear. A friction clutch on the other roll helps maintain the pear in its proper position, once the proper alignment has been attained. The pear is dropped downwardly into a transfer cup having four resilient fingers which tend to orient the pear. The pear is then pushed out of the transfer cup downwardly into a feed cup having a concave receptacle for centering the stem of the pear and three upwardly extending arms which grasp and center the blossom end of the pear. The pear is then transferred to a station wherein the pear is cored and thereafter peeled and seed celled simultaneously. The stem and blossom are also trimmed. The pear is thereafter passed into a slice cup having a design which more effectively separates the waste from the processed pear.

摘要： A peeling head is provided for use in a peeling machine wherein a fruit or vegetable (such as an apple or pear) is skewered and rotated about an axis and wherein at least one elongated pivotable shaft housing with a rotary peeling cutter mounted on its distal end articulates to move the rotary peeling cutter around the surface of the fruit or vegetable. The peeling head has a plastic guard carried at the distal end of the shaft housing, and a ceramic tracing shoe insert carried by the plastic guard wherein the ceramic tracing shoe insert has a peel string guide which constantly urges the peel string in the proper direction in order to facilitate breaking of the peel string.

摘要： Apparatus and method for removing material from the surface of fruits and vegetables (produce) and separating the removed material from the resultant mixture utilizes the rotation of an upwardly directed cage formed of elongated rotating spindles having a material removing surface thereon, the cage rotary speed being sufficient, at the interior radius thereof, to maintain the produce in continuous centrifugal force contact against the spindle material removing surface, but generally insufficient to prevent downward movement or migration of the produce within the cage under the force of gravity. Produce to be treated is urged into engagement with the spindles and the rotating cage causes the produce to accelerate substantially to said rotary speed, whereby the produce travels with the cage in contact with the rotating material removing spindle surfaces. The produce moves downwardly through the cage under the force of gravity, but is restrained from moving downwardly as fast as conditions would otherwise dictate by resisting surface contact against the lower portions of the produce, thereby increasing cage residence time. The resisting surface is displaced downwardly during cage rotation so as to control the descent of the produce downwardly through the cage during treatment. The removed material is continuously separated from the produce by centrifugal force which may be aided by air suction.

摘要： A pear orienting machine which includes an inclined feed chute along which pears are fed. The chute has a plurality of friction strips applied thereto near the inlet end thereof and the friction strips are small in relation to the size of the chute, whereby pears fed to the chute engage the spaced friction strips and those pears which are properly oriented continue along the chute in their proper orientation, but improperly oriented pears are caused to turn and be properly oriented by the frictional engagement thereof with the friction strips. The size and location of the strips is such that the pears are not excessively abraded by the strips and the strips thus remain effective for their intended purpose for extended periods of time, with the result that very few pears are wasted and more efficient operation of the machine is obtained.

The oriented apple was impaled on a fork and rotated while being processed.
