摘要: A printing system includes a first imaging unit configured to print a first image and a single registration mark associated with the first image on a substrate contemporaneously during a production run, and a sensor configured to detect the registration mark at a point where the registration mark is within a second imaging unit. The printing system further includes a controller configured to calculate an offset along a width direction of the substrate based on the single registration mark and to instruct the second imaging unit to print the second image on the substrate. The second image is shifted in its entirety in accordance with the calculated offset and is printed on the same side of the substrate as the first image.

摘要: Multi-layer paper structures and processes of producing the same are described. A method includes moving a backer web within an in-line process and die cutting the backer web associated with a backer web roll to define a support structure, the backer web comprising a front face and a back face. The method includes moving a display web within the in-line process and at least one of printing or imaging the display web associated with a display web roll, the display web comprising a front face and a back face. The method includes applying first adhesive via pattern or solid pasting to the front face of the backer web or the back face of the display web and coupling the backer web and the display web via the first adhesive to form a web of easels.

摘要: A method and apparatus for transferring a principal substance applies the principal substance onto a surface and deposits drops of a gating agent onto a first portion of the principal substance applied to the first surface. The depositing of each drop of gating agent is individually controlled. A second portion of the principal substance not covered by the gating agent is transferred from the first surface to a second surface. A printing system adapted to transfer principal substance from a first surface to a second surface is also disclosed, wherein the printing system exerts mechanical pressure between the first surface and the second surface.

摘要: A print screen tonal control and compensation system and method are provided in which a compensated density curve is utilized to increase press predictability, performance, resources consumption, color variation, and quality. A computerized test pattern is generated, and by applying computer to plate technology, a printed press produces a printed test pattern. The test pattern is subsequently analyzed to identify the plugging point of the production run, and a compensated density curve is created to eliminate plugging within the production pattern. The density curve is then used to generate a compensated printing plate for use in a production press run.

摘要: A bindery gathering chain and conveyor apparatus with a first and second idling sprocket mounted in fixed relation to one another to define first and second fixed reference points and an endless conveyor chain which rides on the first and second idling sprockets and a moveable support located relative to the first and second fixed reference points. A third sprocket is attached to the moveable support and also has the endless conveyor chain riding on it. There is an actuator moving the moveable support and the third sprocket to apply a first force to the moveable support for a high chain-tensioning mode of operation during start or stop for a predetermined period and also to move the moveable support and the third sprocket to provide a second, lower force for a lower chain-tensioning mode of operation during other operating modes.

摘要: Pocket signature feeding machines have been provided with a double indicia scale on a pocket backplate and the scale is related to the centerline of the pocket so that the signatures may be precisely centered in the pocket when the left and right signature guides have their respective indicators pointing to the same indicia on the pocket backplate scale. A sheet that is 10 inches in width can be centered by having the respective left and right indicators set at a number 10 on each scale portion of the double scale. The signatures are bowed by side guides engaging opposite vertical edges of the signatures in the hopper. Also, an outer scale with indicia thereon is provided for setting the side guides at a distance that will cause an automatic, correct bowing of signatures. A gripper mechanism cooperating with a signature picker times the drop of signatures onto the saddle of the gathering conveyor. Indicia associated with the gripper mechanism allows a quick positioning of the gripper to a previously used position for the same size signatures previously run so that the new signature drop will be substantially the same as the signature drop for a previous run.

摘要: A puzzle book having a front cover, a back cover, a plurality of pages disposed between the front and back covers, and a puzzle disposed on the exterior side of the front cover. The puzzle is composed of a plurality of interlocking puzzle pieces which are disposed in a cavity formed in the exterior side of the front cover. Each of the puzzle pieces has a portion of a printed image formed thereon and a plurality of interlocking portions. The cavity in which the puzzle pieces are disposed may have a shape defined by an internal perimeter of a border area, and the border area may have a plurality of interlocking portions which mate with the interlocking portions of the puzzle pieces to help hold the puzzle pieces within the cavity when the front cover of the puzzle book is opened. The puzzle book may also be provided with a single sheet of transparent material which covers at least a portion of the puzzle and which is removable from the front cover. The transparent material may be a sleeve or band shrink-wrapped around the front cover or a rectangular sheet adhered to the front cover.

摘要: A method of and system for converting an original representation of a page element expressed in bitmap form into a page definition language representation of the page element develops an element approximation expressed in the page definition language, converts the element approximation into an approximation bitmap and compares the approximation bitmap to the original representation expressed in bitmap form to obtain an error indication. The error indication is checked to determine whether it meets a certain criterion and, if so, the element approximation is used as the page definition language representation. Otherwise, one or more further element approximations are developed until an element approximation is obtained that results in an error indication which meets the certain criterion.
