Abstract:
First events corresponding to detecting a reflection off a reference object are detected. Second events corresponding to detecting a reflection off a remote object are also detected. A histogram having a first peak corresponding to the first events and a second peak corresponding to the plurality of second events is generated. A distance between the remote object and the reference object is determined in dependence on a time between the first peak and the second peak of the histogram.
Abstract:
An optical sensor includes an infra red LED, a photodetector and a lock in charge amplifier. The photodetector passes charge to a feedback capacitor of the charge amplifier following an illumination cycle during which the LED is emitting and also following an illumination cycle during which the LED does not emit. An amplifier presents an output indicative of the difference between the charge generated at the photodetector during the illuminated and non-illuminated cycles.
Abstract:
An arithmetic unit comprising: an encoding circuit arranged to receive first and second operands each having a bit length of m bits and to generate therefrom a number n of partial products of bit length of 2m bits or less; an addition circuit having 2m columns each having n inputs, wherein bits of said partial products are applied to said inputs for combining said partial products into a result leaving certain of said inputs unused; and a rounding bit generator connected to supply a rounding bit to at least one of said unused inputs in one of said in columns at a bit position to cause said result to be rounded.
Abstract:
An optical rotary encoder uses polarization difference imaging techniques to calculate an angle of orientation of a rotatable member. The optical rotary encoder includes a light source, a polarization sensor that has a polarizer and image sensing structure, and a polarizer disk fixed between to the rotatable and interposed between the light source and the polarization sensor.
Abstract:
Combining circuitry for combining a plurality of multi-bit partial product terms in a multiplier circuit includes a plurality of compression columns, each column receiving a plurality of partial product term bits. At least one compression column includes: a first circuit arranged to receive a first set of the plurality of partial product term bits for the at least one compression column, the first circuit further arranged to combine the first set of term bits to produce a first combined term bit set; and a second circuit arranged to receive a second set of the plurality of term bits for the at least one compression column and all of the first combined term bit set.

An arithmetic unit comprising: an encoding circuit arranged to receive first and second operands each having a bit length of m bits and to generate therefrom a number n of partial products of varying bit length of m bits or less; an addition circuit having m columns each having n inputs, wherein bits of said partial products are applied to said inputs for combining said partial products into a result leaving certain of said inputs unused; and a rounding bit generator connected to supply a rounding bit to at least one of said unused inputs in one of said m columns at a bit position to cause said result to be rounded.
Abstract:
A camera module with a fixed near field focus is configured to capture a single image. That single image is segmented by an image divider a number of regions. A focus metric determiner then determines a focus metric for each of the regions. A depth map generator maps the focus metric into a depth value for each of the regions and combines the depth values to generate a depth map.
Abstract:
Photoluminescence from a sample detector is detected using an array of photo-sensitive detectors. At least one first photo-sensitive detector of the array is provided with a first type of linear polarization filter and at least one second photo-sensitive detector is provided with a second type of linear polarization filter. The first type of linear polarization filter has a plane of polarization which is at angled with respect to a plane of polarization of said second type of polarization filter.
Abstract:
A hybrid analog-digital pixel circuit is fabricated on two wafers. A first wafer includes the analog pixel circuitry and a second wafer includes the digital control and processing circuitry. Externally accessible contact structures for electrically interconnecting the two wafers are arranged in groups. Each group includes externally accessible contact structures for carrying signals associated solely with operation of a corresponding pixel.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for generating a CDMA signal s(t) comprising N components involves assigning to each of the N components one unique spreading sequence an selected from a set of M spreading sequences with M≧N, modulating the symbols dn of each component on the assigned unique spreading sequence an, and combining the N symbols dn each being spread with its own unique spreading sequence an to a CDMA signal s(t). The assigned spreading sequences an are selected such that all selected pairs within the set of N spreading sequences are orthogonal or very close to be orthogonal so that cross-correlation components between all spreading sequences an are close to zero or zero.
