摘要: Methods and devices for evaluating viability and/or degree of contamination of cells cultured in a reactor, which includes providing luminescent dye in the reactor whose luminescence anisotropy is influenced by the viability or the degree of contamination of the cells, exciting the luminescent dye to luminesce by irradiating polarized light into the medium. polarizing light emitted by the luminescent dye that leaves the medium, and detecting the polarized emitted light with a light sensor, where the polarized emitted light is detected as at least two luminescence values in at least two different polarization angles, and determining at least one anisotropy value from the at least two luminescence values by means of mathematical methods, which correlates with the viability or the degree of contamination of the cells.

摘要: An analyzing system includes a detection area with a transparent window past which an analyte moves and emits or transmits light. One or more polarizing elements receive and polarize the light into respective two or more different polarization components. One or more optical detectors receive the respective two or more polarization components and generate respective at least two signals in response. A processor is coupled to the optical detectors and configured to determine a polarization status of the light from the analyte based on the at least two signals.

摘要: The present invention provides novel microfluidic devices and methods that are useful for performing high-throughput screening assays and combinatorial chemistry. The invention provides for aqueous based emulsions containing uniquely labeled cells, enzymes, nucleic acids, etc., wherein the emulsions further comprise primers, labels, probes, and other reactants. An oil based carrier-fluid envelopes the emulsion library on a microfluidic device, such that a continuous channel provides for flow of the immiscible fluids, to accomplish pooling, coalescing, mixing, sorting, detection, etc., of the emulsion library.

摘要: A non-invasive measurement of biological tissue reveals information about the function of that tissue. Polarized light is directed onto the tissue, stimulating the emission of fluorescence, due to one or more endogenous fluorophors in the tissue. Fluorescence anisotropy is then calculated. Such measurements of fluorescence anisotropy are then used to assess the functional status of the tissue, and to identify the existence and severity of disease states. Such assessment can be made by comparing a fluorescence anisotropy profile with a known profile of a control.
