    摘要: A range control system is provided for a missile or projectile which utilizing its inflight prediction of the impact range error, provides means for correcting for this error. The system is carried in the vehicle, and it includes a comparator system which compares outputs from a vehicle-mounted accelerometer system with predetermined values. Any differences are fed to a function generator which produces a control signal. The control signal from the function generator operates a reaction control motor which, in turn, compensates for any variations of the vehicle from its course, so that the predetermined range of the vehicle is maintained.

    摘要: An arithmetic unit for accomplishing the multiplication of two binary numbers at high speeds is described herein. By utilizing a plurality of gates connected in successive stages, the combinations of individual digits of a multiplicand and a multiplier to produce the product thereof is accomplished. The gates of the successive stages are so connected as to shift the partial product produced at each stage by one digit to the right, the least significant digit of that stage being shifted out as a product digit. In the simplest case, there will be as many stages as there are multiplier digits. However, a modification of the basic system provides for the simultaneous combination of the multiplicand with a plurality of individual multiplier digits to reduce the number of stages required in the apparatus. Each stage produces carries which are added in by means of inter-spaced adders or half-adders at each stage. No timing signals are required since this apparatus operates as an asynchronous device. Therefore, each stage occupies only the time required to transfer the function through it, and the total multiplication process is speeded up thereby. The modification which permits simultaneous combination of a plurality of multiplier digits with the multiplicand shortens the required multiplication time even further, and if special encoders are utilized, the total multiplication time can be even further reduced. Since no timing pulses are required, information flows through the multiplier as a ripple.

    摘要: The disclosed embodiment of the present invention is a digital parallel to serial converter for a television raster display which employs a phase-locked loop for controlling the conversion rate. The disclosed converter is formed of a register which receives data in parallel form, a plurality of transfer gates for transferring data out of the register, and a frequency controlled gating circuit for enabling the transfer gates. The frequency controlled gating circuit is formed of a voltage controlled oscillator having an output connected to a counter, which is, in turn, connected to a decoder from which the gating pulses are derived for enabling the transfer gates. A flip-flop is connected to the counter and to a clock, such that the DC average value of an output thereof forms a feedback control for the oscillator.

    摘要: In those optical systems in which a lens is moved parallel to the film to either record information on the film or read information from the film, any variation in the distance between the film and the lens will degrade the optical focus. The disclosed embodiment of the present invention is a system for maintaining the distance from a lens to a film in such an optical arrangement constant. A metallic member is supported on the lens housing and the film is supported on a metallic table. The lens housing is mounted for movement by means of a servomotor toward and away from the film. The capacitance between the metallic member and the metallic table is sensed and a voltage proportional thereto is supplied to drive the servomotor to position the lens housing to maintain the capacitance constant.

    摘要: Possible incident star energy is directed onto a deflecting mirror as a beam which will systematically reflect said beam upon one of a plurality of detector elements arranged in a linear array, generating a signal. This signal is amplified and fed to a level detector. When a predetermined threshold is exceeded, the output of the level detector activates a trigger. The trigger activates a flip-flop which causes the scanner to reverse and rescan the limited area where the possible stars occurred. This time, the signal is passed through another channel wherein the time constant for the filter is increased by about three, (the number of rescans). This results in an improvement in the signal to noise ratio of about at the point in question. The level detector trigger associated with the second channel is set at a higher threshold. When this trigger is activated, the acquisition problem is solved and the probability of star presence is over 0.99. This second channel trigger enables a second flip-flop switching the scanner to the fine mode, whose purpose is merely of more accurately defining the position of the star in the search field. In the fine mode, when the signal from the star is centered, an output at one frequency may be provided whereas an increasingly large off-axis error signal in another frequency may be provided for offcenter both in azimuth and elevator. These error signals act on the scanner so as to move the scanner in line with the star scanned.
