摘要： An electroluminescent display panel includes a first plurality of addressing conductors, a second plurality of addressing conductors forming a plurality of intersection regions with the first plurality of addressing conductors, each intersection region having associated with it an electrical series combination of an electroluminescent element of phosphor material of the d.c. kind as hereinafter defined electrically connected to the member of the first plurality of addressing conductors forming the intersection region and a photosensitive latch electrically connected to the member of the second plurality of addressing conductors forming the intersection region, the combination being arranged so that when light is emitted from the electroluminescent element it is incident on the latch, and each intersection region having associated with it a by-pass channel incorporating an electrical isolating element connected commonly to the electroluminescent element, and the latch associated with that intersection region, whereby a voltage may be applied across the electroluminescent element belonging to that intersection region without being applied across the associated latch. The isolating elements may be capacitors, non-linear diodes or semiconductor glass (amorphous) threshold switches. The latches may be photoconductors or photocapacitors.

摘要： Acoustic surface wave devices of a novel class characterized by the provision of coupling means comprising at least several spaced filamentary electrical conductors extending over a first region and a second region for causing acoustic surface waves propagated across the coupling means in the first region to interact with acoustic surface waves propagated across the coupling means in the second region, by means of alternating electric signals induced on the filamentary electric conductors. The regions to be coupled are preferably formed on piezoelectric material, but modified forms of the coupling means can be made operable with other materials and suitable biassing fields. The described devices include acoustic beam width changing, impedance matching, track changing and phase-sensitive switching devices; a hybrid junction device, resonator and recirculating filter devices, tapped acoustic delay lines, unidirectional transducers, acoustic surface wave reflectors and mode discriminators, electrically-controlled acoustic beam switches and directional couplers, acoustic beam splitters, and means for reducing unwanted reflections of acoustic surface waves.

摘要： The invention relates to combustion devices wherein a flame stabilisation zone is formed in the wake of a body disposed in a swiftly moving gas stream. The invention provides a combustion device comprising a bluffbody disposed in a gas stream, the body having an aerodynamically smooth upstream-facing portion terminating downstream through a step change of section in a substantially flat downstream-facing surface extending transversely to the direction of flow of the stream, and means for influencing flow over the body to induce stable vortex formation adjacent said downstream facing surface. Preferably such means comprise suction means, suction being applied from the interior of the body in each region of the step change of section. Combustion devices according to the invention may include a flow divider extending downstream of the downstream facing surface to separate vortices originating at the step change of section.

摘要： A power unit consists basically of two gas turbine engines. In the first which is a closed cycle the working fluid (helium) is heated by passing it through a duct embedded in a fluidized bed. The exhaust gas is passed through a conventional heat exchanger before being returned to the compressor. In the second engine, consisting of a compressor and a turbine, air from the compressor is passed through the particulate material of the fluidised bed with fuel which maintains combustion in the fluidised bed. The exhaust gas from the turbine of the second engine is passed through a conventional heat exchanger and then to atmosphere. The two engines each drive an alternator.

摘要： A detonating cord is provided, for causing fracture and break-up of an aircraft cockpit canopy for the purpose of emergency escape, consisting of an explosive core contained in a lead casing and surrounded by a plastic sheath, the cord being of substantially semi-circular or D-shaped cross-section. The semicircular surface, but not the flat face, of the casing has several layers of lead tape applied to it within the plastic sheath which lead tape acts as blast-containing and reflecting material to direct the blast effect of the detonation preferentially through the flat-face.
