    摘要: A computer communications network comprises a plurality of interconnected ATM switches forming a WAN or LAN area network over which ATM cells are transmitted, and a plurality of user devices including LAN interface adapters for connection to one or more to local area networks (LANs). An interface device connects at least some of the respective ATM switches to the LAN interface adapters. The interface adapts the ATM cells for transport over the LANS. The user devices can thus communicate through the LAN interface adapters transparently with the wide area network.

    摘要: Techniques for bandwidth management and flow control on a resilient packet ring (RPR) network is described. The RPR requires allocation and guarantee of a bandwidth for each channel between two nodes on the ring. The bandwidth is managed by shaping traffic on a channel at the source by using a bandwidth allocation factor calculated at each node. The bandwidth allocation factor, which is communicated to other nodes, is calculated by using a recursive nonlinear function of the transit buffer size.

    摘要: A method for more efficient data transmission by matching the length of the data portions of a packet to the width of the buffer in the processor. In the SPI 4.2 protocol the data portion can be set to 64 bytes and the buffer set to 64 byte width. This allows for more efficient use of the network processor resources while remaining within the bounds set by the standard. The control words bracketing the data portions may also have SOP and/or EOP indications set to specify the start or end of a packet. The Network Processor, by its design, will store each data portion in a 64 byte slot. Packet headers are stored in a single buffer slot, thereby eliminating the need to reassemble the header before the packet can be processed, making packet processing more time efficient.

    摘要: According to at least one embodiment of the invention, a protocol for managing redundant signaling links to form a reliable signaling connection is provided. The protocol has an initialization phase, in which the availability of signaling links is determined and an available signaling link is selected and activated, followed by an operational phase in which the activated link is used for sending signaling messages for a higher-level protocol. During the operational phase both links are monitored for availability using a query and reply technique. Should either link fail, a status message is sent to the remaining available link along with an activity switchover being performed, as required, depending on whether the failed link was the active link. The higher-level protocol process running on the media gateway performs management of the links, and the media gateway controller operates as a slave, whereby it need not initiate nor control any of the activities for management of the signaling links, thereby reducing the processing burden placed upon it. However, optionally, a media gateway controller may request a link switchover, which may be used to support link maintenance activities or link congestion avoidance measures.

    摘要: An optical network unit having an environmentally sealed printed circuit board arrangement within a first compartment and a signal in/out arrangement in a second compartment. The compartments are provided by two housings. Instead of replacing individual circuit boards in the case of breakdown or malfunction, replacement of the whole of the printed circuit board arrangement is necessary thereby eliminating human error and minimizing downtime. Two housings provide the two compartments. These housings are preferably mounted upon a housing mount and a carrier for the optical network unit is also preferably mounted upon the housing mount. This housing and carrier arrangement simplifies assembly and disassembly of parts of the unit for maintenance and replacement purposes.

    摘要: In source routed or hop-by-hop routed protocol communication networks, when congestion is detected at a certain network element, a notification message is sent to nodes. The nodes keep track of congestion condition and generally have knowledge of the congestion, thereby allowing them to make more intelligent routing decisions, i.e., rate controlling messages, routing traffic around congestion, regulating admission at the edge of the network. The intelligent routing decision is based on the congestion condition indicated by a restriction level which is periodically and dynamically updated.

    摘要: A rail tracking system and method for providing precise tracking of voltage levels to a dual supply voltage Integrated Circuit. A switch mode DC-DC voltage regulator is used to derive the lower of the two voltage levels from the higher level. The switch mode regulator employs a pulse width modulator (PWM) to derive the lower voltage level. A separate supply source is utilized to power the PWM and the timing of the supply voltage is such that the PWM has reached steady state before the higher voltage level is provided to the regulator.
