    Abstract: A bar and tube feeder having a narrow frame including a horizontal box beam of rectangular cross section and a pair of upright legs, a continuous conveyor comprising an endless chain mounted on sprockets near the opposite ends of said box beam, spaced bar-supporting carriers mounted on the chain, a guide bar on the beam for holding the upper flight of the chain parallel to the beam, means for supporting a stack of long bars parallel to the upper flight of the chain, and an improved escapement means to feed the lowermost bar from the stack to the carriers. The box beam has a length at least 10 feet and provides the main reinforcing element of the frame. The frame, including the legs and escapement means are narrow and have a width only slightly greater than that of the box beam so that the bar feeder occupies a minimum amount of floor space.

    Abstract: A bar handling system is provided wherein bars or tubes from a bundle are automatically unscrambled, fed through a shear or other machine to a discharge ramp, fed from the ramp in increments one or several at a time, and automatically strapped in bundles containing a predetermined number of bars. A unique bundler is provided at the end of the discharge ramp having spaced slings which catch and slowly lower a bundle of bars onto a roller conveyor and having a strapping machine with a strap guide or chute which extends around the bundle and is specially constructed to permit lateral feed of the bars from the discharge ramp to the slings of the bundler.

    Abstract: A bar feeder especially designed to handle bars and tubes of widely varying diameters, including those of very small diameter, and having an escapement mechanism of simple inexpensive construction, an improved box beam frame construction and a novel feeding system wherein gripping jaws grip and locate the end of each bar near the beginning and end of each cycle to assist the feed fingers in gripping the bar and in releasing the remnant and to assure proper positioning of the bar relative to the conveyor.     Abstract: An unscrambling process and apparatus for rapidly loading bars from a bundle to the storage ramp of a bar feeder employs slings for raising and lowering the bundle to orient the bars and has guide means above the storage ramp to form a single row on the ramp while permitting at least several bars to enter the ramp each time the slings are raised. Any interfering bar remaining near the open entrance side of the ramp is thrown over the remaining bars carried by the slings at a predetermined time in the cycle. This prevents jamming and permits reliable automatic feeding of the bars at a high rate far greater than that which could be achieved by previously known unscramblers.
