Abstract: An injector for a fuel injection system comprising: input means for receiving drive signals from an injector drive circuit for controlling operation of the injector, and an ID chip wherein the injector further comprises an electronic latch means arranged to move between a first state in which the electronic latch means is arranged to be enabled such that the ID chip is in communication with the injector drive circuit via the input means, and a second state in which the electronic latch means is arranged to be disabled such that the ID chip is not in communication with the injector drive circuit via the input means wherein the electronic latch means is arranged to move from the first state to the second state upon receipt at the injector of a drive pulse signal from the injector drive circuit.

Abstract: A control method for use in controlling the operation of a turbo-charged engine comprises the steps of: using at least one engine parameter to derive a predicted transient air pressure value; sensing an actual air pressure value using a pressure sensor; and comparing the actual air pressure value with the predicted transient air pressure value to determine a predicted boost pressure error. The boost pressure error may be used in determining whether or not the pressure sensor is operating properly. It may also be used in determining whether the engine is in a transient condition, allowing the improvement in the response of the turbo-charger and this reduces turbo-lag.

Abstract: The invention provides a controller for determining the presence of faults within a fuel injection system of an engine system. The engine system comprises a first injector and at least one further injector, each injector comprising a needle control valve and a pressure control valve. The controller comprises: inputs for receiving data relating to a first engine system parameter; outputs for outputting a control function for controlling the injector valves of each of the injectors, and; a processor for controlling the control function output from the controller. The processor is arranged to output a control function such that the needle control valve of the first injector is kept closed in order to prevent injection from the first injector and to monitor the first engine system parameter as the needle control valve is kept closed, a change in the first engine system parameter indicating that the first injector is operating substantially within normal operating parameters and no or substantially no change in the first engine system parameter indicating that the first injector is faulty.
