A drive chain (2a, 2b) for a chain drive comprises a plurality of chain links (10, 20) and joints (30) respectively connecting two of the chain links (10, 20) forming the drive chain (2a, 2b). The drive chain (2a, 2b) further comprises a plurality of carrier elements (40), each of said carrier elements (40) being linked to one of the chain links (10, 20) or joints (30) and supporting at least two support/engagement elements (43, 44), which are configured for supporting the drive chain (2a, 2b) and/or for engagement with an appropriate turnaround element (50; 90) for driving the drive chain (2a, 2b).

The moving walkway generally includes a pallet track having a passenger portion connected to a return portion through an end portion, a plurality of pallets coupled to the pallet track with each pallet extending between front and back ends, and a pallet return apparatus adapted to sequentially lower the front and back ends of the pallet to transition each pallet from the passenger portion to the return portion of the pallet track. Methods for returning the pallet on the pallet track are also disclosed.

Each of the pallets may be movably connected to the drive chain and the drive chain may travel at a different velocity than the plurality of pallets in a portion of the passenger conveyor. Methods for reducing distance between passenger and return portions of an endless series of pallets are also disclosed.
