摘要: The present invention discloses an improved cleaning composition for cleaning metal surfaces such as aluminum and aluminum-containing alloys. The cleaning composition of the present invention comprises water and an ethoxylate of an alcohol having Formula R1—OH wherein R1 is a saturated or unsaturated, straight-chain or branched aliphatic having from 12 to 80 carbon atoms; an inorganic pH adjusting component; and at least one surfactant that is different than the ethoxylate set forth above. The cleaning composition of the present invention also has an average water-break-free percent reduction of less than 50% after 7 days aging of a working composition prepared from the cleaning composition. The present invention also provides a method of cleaning a metal surface with the cleaning composition of the invention.

摘要: A bodymaker coolant in an aluminum drawing-and-ironing operation often is a slurry in water of a predominantly organic “neat lube” that includes a boron-amine complex as one of its constituents. The neat lube is consumed during use and therefore needs to be replenished in the bodymaker coolant, but chemical analysis of the neat lube in bodymaker coolant has proved to be difficult in practice. It has been found that (1) the concentration of boron in the bodymaker coolant serves as an adequate proxy for the concentration of all other constituents in the neat lube that need to be controlled during use of the bodymaker coolant in order to obtain sufficiently precise control to assure commercially reliable results from passage of container units through the drawing and ironing process, even if the bodymaker coolant includes suspended fine particles of metal; and (2) other constituents of many conventional bodymaker coolants interfere significantly with standard methods for the analytical determination of boron content, but this interference can be prevented by suitable additions to a sample of the bodymaker coolant. An improved analytical method is based on these discoveries.

摘要: Improved lubricant and surface conditioner forming composition containing oxa acids and their methyl esters corresponding to general formula (I): H3C—(CH2)n—CH═CH—(CH2)m—O—(CH2CH2O)x—CH2—C(═O)—OR (I) where each of m, n and x, which may be the same or different, is a positive integer and R represents H or CH3, when dissolved and/or dispersed in water is effective in reducing COF values on substrates that have been contacted with such a lubricant and surface conditioner forming composition and subsequently dried, even when the substrates have been conversion coated and rinsed before any contact with the lubricant and surface conditioner forming composition. Materials according to general formula (I) may be used together with other surfactants, including some constituents of previously known lubricant and surface conditioner forming compositions to provide improvements in COF, waterbreak performance, water drainage and resistance to dry-off of the conditioner.
