Abstract:
An energy meter configured to couple to an electrical grid for monitoring energy consumption of an electrical load connected to the energy meter is described. The energy meter includes a processor and at least one input device coupled to the processor. The at least one input device is configured to receive energy usage data from at least one of the electrical loads and pricing data from a utility company. The energy meter also includes a communication device coupled to the processor and configured to wirelessly communicate with a portable electronic device associated with a customer of the utility company.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and apparatus for providing security services utilizing a smart utility meter are provided. A utility meter may include at least one local network interface, at least one transceiver, and at least one processor. The at least one local network interface may be configured to receive security monitoring data from one or more security devices. The at least one transceiver may be configured to communicate, to at least one of a user device or a security monitoring center via a wide area network, one or more messages associated with the received security monitoring data. The at least one processor may be configured to generate, based at least in part upon the received security monitoring data, the one or more messages and direct the at least one transceiver to output the one or more messages.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for voltage-less electrical signature analysis for fault protection. The systems and methods described herein may involve determining voltage values for a motor (which may then be used to estimate a speed of the motor) when complete voltage measurements may not be available, or may only be temporarily available. More specifically, the systems and methods described herein may address three scenarios, which may include at least: (1) when only a single phase voltage input is available for a three-phase motor, (2) when no voltage input is available, or (3) when a voltage input is only available for a limited period of time (for example, during a learning phase of the motor).
Abstract:
A system and method to perform automatic phase reversal detection are described. The system includes a first subsystem and a second subsystem configured to be synchronized with the first subsystem. A controller is configured to receive a first input from the first subsystem or the second subsystem and a second input from the first subsystem or the second subsystem and perform phase reversal detection based on the first input and the second input.
Abstract:
A method and system for interoperability testing is provided. Various network communications messages are sent to a device under test (DUT) and a number of similar devices from different sources including different manufacturers. Responses to the test signals from the device under test and the similar devices are compared to expected responses in accordance with the standard, and adjustments are made in the device under test if deviations in responses are detected. The device under test may be a intelligent electronic device or IEC 61850 protocol client device.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and apparatus for providing energy management utilizing a power meter are provided. A request for a graphical user interface may be received by a power meter in communication with an external device. The requested graphical user interface may be associated with at least one of (i) operation of the power meter or (ii) provision of electrical power to one or more loads. Based at least in part on the received request, information associated with the graphical user interface may be generated by the power meter and communicated to the external device.
Abstract:
Described herein are embodiments of methods, devices and systems of phase functionality for a meter. One aspect comprises a method of phase functionality for a meter. One embodiment of the method comprises determining a load value for each phase of a poly-phase electrical system; comparing, using a processor, the load value for each phase of a poly-phase electrical system with a respective threshold value for each phase of the poly-phase electrical system; and opening or closing one or more relays based on the comparison, wherein the one or more relays are each associated with respective phase of the poly-phase electrical system.

Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention can provide systems and methods for controlling the load of demand response metering devices. According to one embodiment of the invention, a system can be provided. The system can be operable to receive a load limit, store the load limit, determine a load demand of a location, provide an alarm when the load demand is greater than the load limit, and restrict electricity to the location when the load demand remains greater than the load limit for a predetermined amount of time.
