摘要： Basic cleaning compositions using toxicologically-acceptable ingredients for cleaning fruits and vegetables are provided. Clear liquid formulations comprising oleate and polyethylene glycol are applied to apples, lettuce and the like to remove soil and unwanted deposits. The compositions are characterized by their "non-soapy" feel and desirable viscosity profile which allows spray-on compositions to be formulated.

Mild heating and the inclusion of carboxylates such as oxydisuccinate, citrate or tartrate-succinate maintain the viscosity of such solutions below about 2,000 centipoise, even at temperatures around 30.degree. C.

The package is made of a substantially transparent container which exhibits the tint of a first color. A substantially transparent liquid which exhibits the tint of a second color which is different than the first color is housed in the container. The tint of the first color of the container and the tint of the second color of the liquid cooperate with one another such that the tinted container exhibits a substantially colorless transparent appearance when filled with the tinted liquid.
