    Abstract: Components of drilling and production systems with wide flange bodies are provided. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a component (40, 124, 126, 128) of a wellhead assembly (18) or of a riser (16) of a drilling or production system, the component having a non-tubular main body (42, 130, 140) and a bore (44, 132, 144) extending axially through the main body to allow fluids to flow through the main body via the bore. Rather than having a flanged neck fixedly extending the bore from the main body with a connection flange below or above the main body, the component includes a lateral flange (50, 134, 146, 160) extending outwardly from an exterior surface of the main body such that the lateral flange is positioned alongside the main body. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A drilling and production system is provided. In one embodiment, such a system has a plurality of functions that are effectuated at least predominately without hydraulic fluid. The system can be a drilling system having a rig (20) and a subsea stack (14) for performing various drilling functions, in which a majority of the drilling functions are effected electrically without hydraulic control fluid. In another embodiment, the rig is coupled to a subsea wellhead assembly (14) but is not connected so as to provide hydraulic control fluid from the rig to the subsea wellhead assembly to enable drilling functions of the subsea wellhead assembly. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A choke valve for regulating a flow rate, a pressure or other parameters of a fluid flow may comprise a choke cage comprising a passage therethrough and a choke plug slidable within the passage. At least one conduit may pass through a wall of the choke cage and into the passage such that as the choke plug slides it may at least partially cover the conduit. A ring comprising a sintered superhard material may be secured within the conduit enhancing durability and wear resistance of the choke cage. A method for manufacturing such a choke cage may comprise subjecting grains of superhard material to high-pressure, high-temperature conditions sufficient to sinter at least some of the grains together, hollowing out the sintered superhard material to form a ring, and securing the ring within a conduit.

    Abstract: Embodiments of a vertical pipe handler system (50) and method of its use include a casing tong handling tool (10) connected to a lifting tool (55) having a gripper head (51) and supported by an arm (53) of the vertical pipe handler system. The casing tong connection (33) of the handling tool is located toward the tool's lower end (21) and may be offset in a horizontal direction from the connection (29) to the lifting tool. The casing tong (60) then hangs off-center relative to the lifting tool. The amount of offset may be effective to prevent interference between the gripper head and a tubular being handled by the casing tong.

In one embodiment, a blowout preventer body (42) includes a drill-through bore (44) extending through the blowout preventer body and a ram cavity (58) transverse to the drill-through bore. The blowout preventer body can also include choke and kill line conduits (136, 138) extending through the blowout preventer body, as well as choke and kill line access branch conduits (148, 150) extending between the choke and kill line conduits and the drill-through bore.
