Abstract: What is provided is a method and apparatus wherein a swivel can be detachably connected to an annular blowout preventer thereby separating the drilling fluid or mud into upper and lower sections and allowing the fluid to be displaced in two stages, such as while the drill string is being rotated and/or reciprocated. In one embodiment the sleeve or housing can be rotatably and sealably connected to a mandrel. The swivel can be incorporated into a drill or well string and enabling string sections both above and below the sleeve to be rotated in relation to the sleeve. In one embodiment the drill or well string does not move in a longitudinal direction relative to the swivel. In one embodiment, the drill or well string does move longitudinally relative to the sleeve or housing of the swivel.

Abstract: An accumulator system includes a housing, including a motor housing including an electric motor, a function chamber and an anti-rotating chamber each coupled to the motor housing, a balance chamber, a transfer chamber disposed between the anti-rotating chamber and the balance chamber, a shaft configured to move axially within the function chamber, the anti-rotating chamber, and the transfer chamber, a first piston coupled to a first end of the shaft, a second piston coupled to a second end of the shaft, and third piston configured to separate the transfer chamber from the balance chamber. The electric motor is coupled to and drives the shaft to alternatingly compress working fluid with the first piston in the function chamber to drive the working fluid out of the function chamber, and compress transfer fluid with the second piston in the transfer chamber to drive the transfer fluid out of the transfer chamber.

Abstract: A pressure regulator for a BOP stack includes a housing having an input port, an output port, and a pilot port and a regulator piston axially movable through the housing between an open position and a closed position. The regulator piston has an internal passage formed through its first axial end. When the regulator piston is in the open position, the internal passage is in fluid communication with the input and output ports. When the regulator piston is in the closed position, the internal passage is in fluid communication with the output port and fluidly isolated from the input port. A space with regulator fluid is also provided within the housing adjacent a second axial end of the regulator piston, opposite the first axial end, wherein the space is fluidly isolated from the input port and the output port in both the open position and the closed position.

Abstract: A method includes installing an influx device into a bell nipple. The influx device has an opening, a pumping port entrance, a pumping port exit, a measuring port entrance, and a measuring port exit. The pumping port exit is disposed in the annulus and the measuring port entrance is disposed adjacent the opening. The method further includes pumping a control gas, at a flow rate, from the pumping port entrance to the annulus using the pumping port exit, receiving the control gas at the measuring port exit using the measuring port entrance, detecting the control gas, using a gas measuring device connected to the measuring port exit, to determine a displacement time, and measuring the size of the void in the annulus using the flow rate and the displacement time.
