Abstract: A personality module for providing information concerning desired settings for configuring environmental features of a vehicle. A computer-readable medium such as a memory card contains the module and specifies an identification of a user and information for use in automatically establishing settings for the vehicle and specific to the user. The medium further specifies parameters related to the information for use in generating control signals to automatically configure the vehicle according to the settings.

Abstract: An electronic pen for recording motion data relating to use of the pen. It includes a pen body and a ball mounted in the pen body. A sensor in the pen body, located proximate the ball, detects motion of the ball and converts the motion into corresponding electronic signals. A memory in the pen body, electronically coupled to the sensor, receives the electronic signals and stores corresponding data related to the motion. Use of a high-density memory, such as an atomic resolution storage memory, permits recording sufficient data for the motion within a memory module small enough to fit within the pen body.

Abstract: An automatic lead sensing and fine-forming system is disclosed for preparing the leads of electronic components so that they are ready to be inserted by robots into holes on printed circuit boards. The positions of the lead tips and the positions of the holes are sensed and compared to determine if any leads need to be bent. These leads are then bent and the force on the leads and their displacement are sensed and recorded during the process. The data recorded in then used for subsequent bendings, where necessary, for bending the leads to the target locations so that all the leads fit simultaneously into the holes. To simplify image processing, the lead tips are illuminated by light originating from substantially isotropic directions from locations substantially coplanar with the region of the lead tips. A telecentric lens system is used in the optical sensing of the position of the lead tips so that measurement of the distances between leads is unaffected by variations in the separation between the lead tips and the sensing device.

Abstract: A modular radiation detector array which allows improved spatial resolution and facilitates installation and replacement for repair. Each module includes two detachably assembled portions with one portion including a plurality of spaced plates for collimating radiation. The second portion includes a printed circuit board, a semiconductor diode array chip mounted on the printed circuit board, and a plurality of scintillator crystals mounted on the semiconductor chip with each crystal overlying a diode. Signals from the diodes are applied to signal processing means by a cable which is readily connected to and disconnected from the diode array.

Abstract: System and method are set forth enabling reconstruction of images of desired "frozen action" cross-sections of the heart or of other bodily organs or similar objects undergoing cyclic displacements. Utilizing a computed tomography scanning apparatus data is acquired during one or more full rotational cycles and suitably stored. The said data corresponding to various angular projections can then be correlated with the desired portion of the object's cyclical motion by means of a reference signal associated with the motion, such as that derived through an electrocardiogram--where a heart is the object of interest. Data taking can also be limited to only the times when the desired portion of the cyclical motion is occurring. A sequential presentation of a plurality of said frozen action cross-sections provides a motion picture of the moving object.
