    摘要: Apparatus and method of lubricating leads for installation of a component on a circuit board. In the process, a strip of conductive foam is compressed and inserted into a solution of solvent and lubricant operation. The compressed form is permitted to expand within the solution thereby resulting in the foam being saturated with the solution. The saturated foam is air dried to remove the solution and produce a foam that is impregnated with the lubricant. The leads of the component are inserted into the impregnated foam thereby resulting in each component lead being covered with a thin coat of the lubricant.

    摘要: An automatic lead sensing and fine-forming system is disclosed for preparing the leads of electronic components so that they are ready to be inserted by robots into holes on printed circuit boards. The positions of the lead tips and the positions of the holes are sensed and compared to determine if any leads need to be bent. These leads are then bent and the force on the leads and their displacement are sensed and recorded during the process. The data recorded in then used for subsequent bendings, where necessary, for bending the leads to the target locations so that all the leads fit simultaneously into the holes. To simplify image processing, the lead tips are illuminated by light originating from substantially isotropic directions from locations substantially coplanar with the region of the lead tips. A telecentric lens system is used in the optical sensing of the position of the lead tips so that measurement of the distances between leads is unaffected by variations in the separation between the lead tips and the sensing device.

    摘要: During the assembly of electronic components on circuit boards, the problems of ductile smear cusps produced on wire ends by traditional scissor-type shearing are addressed by a spiral orbital shear apparatus. This apparatus includes a first fixed plate having an array of apertures and a second plate also having the array of apertures. The first and second plates have abutting surfaces. A first eccentric drive member is connected to rotate at a first rate in a first direction. A second eccentric drive member is connected to the second plate and rotates with the first eccentric drive member. The second drive member is also rotated at a second rate in the first direction independently of the rotation of the first drive member.

    摘要: Under direction of a machine controller, an endless chain conveyor is incrementally passed by a plurality of loader heads. The loader heads receive a series of components taped on a reel supplied substrate, sever individual taped components from the supply, and load the individual taped components onto clip carriers of the endless conveyor, on command, in a preferred sequence. The clip carrier mounted components are then indexed past a cutter assembly for trimming the lengths of the leads and removing the substrate, and a positioning disc assembly for positioning the components in the clip carriers before being passed to a rotary transfer assembly. The rotary transfer assembly removes individual components from the conveyor and rotates to an unload position above a linear loader, which laterally transfers the components from the rotary transfer to an insert head assembly. At the insert head assembly, the components are oriented and inserted by their leads into the holes of a printed circuit board for clinching by a clinch mechanism. Any components still left on the conveyor after it passes the rotary transfer assembly are removed by a chain unloader.
