A method of photographically recording at high speed the far field pattern of a high energy infrared laser beam over a selected period of time for providing rapid repetitive samples of information on beam parameters such as far field beam intensity, jitter, and absolute beam size and power. A sample from a high energy infrared laser beam is directed into an enclosure that is light tight to visible radiation and contains an operating lensless movie camera loaded with suitable movie film. The infrared beam is focused on the film plane of the camera so that consecutive frames of the film are irradiated by the infrared beam each time the camera shutter is open. The period of irradiation is of sufficient duration to sensitize the film to visible radiation in the areas where the infrared radiation impinges on the film. The position of the camera shutter is detected and an electrical trigger signal generated just before the shutter is closed for each frame. The trigger signal is applied to appropriate circuitry which actuates a light source to generate a pulse of visible light that irradiates the film plane of the camera near the end of each shutter movement to expose each frame of the film. The exposed film strip is developed to provide a continuous record of the infrared laser beam characteristics over the selected period of time.

A switching thermal regulator for efficiently and accurately regulating the temperature of an attached device, which includes a constant current supply, a thermistor, a signal processing amplifier, and a switching power supply. The thermistor, which is attached to the device to be regulated, senses the temperature of the device, and signals this temperature to the constant current supply, and signals this temperature to the signal processing amplifier which, in turn, signals this temperature to the switching power supply. Based on this voltage signal, the switching power supply adjusts the output voltage sent to a cooler, which allows the device to maintain a constant temperature.

A combination tub comminuting apparatus and blower for simplifying and reducing the number of moving parts in a forage comminuting means. The comminuting portion comprises rotor means which rotates on a radius of the tub and is situated in an opening extending from near the edge of the tub to a point which is near the center of the tub. Since the forage is fed to the end of the cylinder described by the rotor rather than to the sides as in normal comminuting means, the length of the cylinder is very short compared to the diameter. The beating means grab the forage and pull it into the enclosure in pieces. Some embodiments of the concept include teeth on the stator enclosure for the rotor to provide further comminution before the rotor executes its final step of forcefully discharging the comminuted forage, via the beating means, in a blower-type action.
