Abstract:
To realize a camera with both an undisturbed scene recording and automatic adjustments which are periodically effected while using one and the same image sensor (1), this sensor is formed as a charge transfer device comprising a pick-up member (I), a storage member (S) and a shift register member (SR). To perform a black level setting (9, 11) in the scene picture signal an opaque strip (BS) is provided on the pick-up member (I). Automatic adjustments for, for example, lens focus (FC) and white balance (WB) in color recording are accurately performed when the image sensor, beyond a scene picture information integration period and a subsequent charge transfer period between pick-up member and storage member, is operative in an adjustment action information integration period and a subsequent charge transfer period so that a signal is obtained at the sensor output terminal (R,G,B) with sequentially the adjustment action information and the associated dark current information for a separate black level control circuit (10, 12). The adjustment action information can thereby be accurately determined for the relevant adjustment as the associated dark current information is automatically obtained.

Abstract:
A camera for recording television, photographic or cinematographic images comprises an automatic focusing device. The information required for automatic focusing is obtained with the aid of a partial blocking arrangement for blocking two different portions of an optical path leading to an electronic image sensor. These two portions are located on opposite sides of an optical central axis. After signals obtained during the partial blocking periods have been compared with each other, the focusing is adjusted until signal correlation is optimized. To produce a camera having both undisturbed scene recording and automatic focusing, while using only one sensor, this camera includes a charge transfer device. The device comprises a pickup member, a storage member, and a shift register member. The charge transfer device operates during a television field period TV in the following sequence: scene pickup period TVS, pickup storage transfer period TFO, first partial blocking pickup period TAS, first blocking storage transfer period TF1, second partial blocking pickup period TBS, and second blocking storage transfer period TF2.

Abstract:
An image sensor (PSR) in the form of a charge transfer device comprises picture pick-up elements (p) for converting incident radiation into electric charge and a charge transfer shift register (SR) for periodically shifting the charges under the control of clock pulses (S1) to a sensor output terminal (TSR) for the supply of a pulsatory picture signal with periodically occurring reset pulses and picture signal pulses. The output terminal (TSR) is succeeded by a series arrangement (SC) of at least a signal clamping circuit (CL) for the reset pulses, a resettable signal smoothing and hold circuit (SS) for the picture signal pulses and a signal sampling circuit (SH) for the picture signal pulses. By virtue of the signal smoothing it is achieved that interferences have a minimum influence on the picture signal sample values. The signal smoothing and hold circuit (SS) is in the form of, for example, a peak voltage detector or of a current source integrator for the picture signal pulses. Besides, for performing a defective picture pick-up element correction an on-off switching circuit (SW) is present between the signal clamping circuit (CL) and the resettable signal smoothing and hold circuit (SS), while the resetting at the signal smoothing and hold circuit (SS) is switched off when the switching circuit (SW) is switched off.

In a method of histogram equalization of an image signal (Y), a histogram of the image signal (Y) is determined (HC), the image signal (Y) is processed (HP) in dependence upon the histogram to obtain a modified signal (Ymod), and the modified signal (Ymod) is enhanced (E) where said modified signal (Ymod) falls below said image signal (Y). Preferably, the enhancement (E) is color saturation (RGBsat) dependent.
