摘要: Extrusion profile articles comprising a polyester having a dicarboxylic acid component and a glycol component. The dicarboxlyic acid component comprises at least 90 mole % terephthalic acid residues. The glycol component comprises at least 75 mole % ethylene glycol residues and 15 to 25 mole % residues of a difunctional glycol such as, for example, 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol. Such extrusion profile articles can exhibit reduced haze, reduced sharkskin, and/or increased compatibility in PET recycling.

The dicarboxylic acid component comprises at least 90 mole % terephthalic acid residues. The glycol component comprises at least 75 mole % ethylene glycol residues and 15 to 25 mole % residues of a difunctional glycol such as, for example, 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol. 摘要: In a process for producing a profile by profile extrusion, a melt of a polyester composition is extruded through a die to form a profile. The processability of the polyester composition is improved by the addition of a branching agent, which provides increased melt strength and increased high shear thinning. The polyester composition has an inherent viscosity of at least 0.65 dl/g. The diacid component of the polyester composition has from 100 to 98.0 mole percent of residues of a primary acid selected from terephthalic acid, naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, isophthalic acid and mixtures thereof. The glycol component of the polyester composition has from 100 to 98.0 mole percent of residues of a primary glycol selected from ethylene glycol, 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, diethylene glycol, neopentyl glycol, and mixtures thereof. The polyester composition has from 0.05 to 2.0 mole percent of residues of the branching agent selected from an acidic branching agent with a tri-functional or greater monomer, an alcoholic branching agent with a tri-functional or greater monomer, and mixtures thereof. The branching agent is present as part of either the diacid component or glycol component depending on whether the functionality is acidic or alcoholic, respectively.

摘要: In a process for producing a profile by profile extrusion of a thermoplastic resin, a melt of the thermoplastic resin is extruded through a die to form the profile. The process is improved by utilizing a thermoplastic resin having a composition of from about 99.95 to about 98.0 weight percent amorphous or semicrystalline polyester and from about 0.05 to about 2.0 weight percent of a zinc salt of an organic acid. The improvement of the process is either by increasing speed or decreasing temperature of a profile extrusion process already operating at a maximum speed and/or temperature with experiencing melt fracture. When melt fracture is present in the profile extrusion process, a method for reducing melt fracture in a profile is accomplished by combining from about 99.95 to about 98.0 weight percent amorphous or semicrystalline polyester and from about 0.05 to about 2.0 weight percent of a zinc salt of an organic acid to form a melt, extruding the melt through an orifice of a die at a temperature and a speed to form an extruded article having a shape, and thereafter quenching the extruded article to form a profile.
