摘要: A magnetic heading sensor alignment and roll reducing device is provided. Aenerally cylindrical assembly has a first end and a second end. Each end has a plurality of grooves located equiangularly on a circle with the center thereof located at the cylindrical assembly's center longitudinal axis. Bearings, positioned at and supported by the first and second ends, support a magnetic heading sensor at either end thereof. The bearings provide the sensor with rotational freedom about the center longitudinal axis. A counterweight is affixed to the sensor such that its center of gravity and the sensor's center of gravity are located at a common axial loci. A plurality of longitudinal spring strips are provided to fit into corresponding ones of the grooves on the first and second ends of the cylindrical assembly. The spring strips cooperate with the inner surface of a tubular housing when the device is inserted therein. All materials used to construct the device are non-magnetic.

摘要: A magnetic heading sensor alignment device for an acoustic towed line arrays described. It includes a generally cylindrical non-magnetic piece having a longitudinal opening along its central axis to accommodate the heading sensor. A plurality of longitudinal non-magnetic strips or springs are provided around the cylindrical piece by securing them at the ends of the cylindrical piece to form a cage. This provides a spring-like action when the alignment device including the heading sensor is inserted inside the hose of the towed line array and thus keep the heading sensor aligned during the deployment of the acoustic towed array.

摘要: An extractor for use in removing a solid, smooth, press fit shaft from a sing where access to the shaft is restricted. The extractor has a jacket and a collet. The collet fits around the shaft and the collet in turn fits within the jacket. The exterior of the collet end within which the shaft is placed is tapered and this tapered portion of the collet fits within a similarly tapered bore in the jacket. The collet has a threaded end opposite the tapered portion and the threaded end protrudes from the jacket when the tapered portion is fully seated within the tapered bore of the jacket. A nut is placed onto the threaded end and tightened such that the collet is pulled further into the jacket. The movement of the tapered portion within the tapered bore creates a wedging action which forces the collet against the shaft. As the nut is further tightened, the collet grips the shaft tighter. When the collet is sufficiently tightened about the shaft, jacking screws are inserted through a flange on the jacket and brought to bear against the shaft housing. Turning the jacking screws pulls the jacket, collet and attached shaft free of the housing.
