摘要: A coated optical fiber can have a primary coating and a secondary coating, where the primary coating can have good microbending resistance and is obtained by curing a composition having a high cure speed. In one example, a coated optical fiber can include as optical fiber, a primary coating and a secondary coating. The optical fiber can have an attenuation increase of less than 0.650 dB/km at 1550 nm, with the primary coating having a modulus retention ratio of at least 0.5, a glass transition temperature of −35° C., and where the primary coating is obtained by curing a primary coating composition having a cure dose to attain 95% of the maximum attainable modulus of less than 0.65 J/cm2.

摘要: Radiation-curable compositions are disclosed which, after cure, are substantially non-yellowing. The compositions are particularly tailored for coating and bundling of optical fibers. A first preferred composition is based on a polyether-type of oligomer diluted with reactive diluents. Isocyanurate structures are included in the composition to raise Tg. A second preferred composition is based on fatty oil comprising (meth)acrylate groups and bisphenol A derivatives comprising (meth)acrylate groups. Photoinitiators can be included to increase cure speed. The formulations do not include material amounts of ingredients which tend to cause yellowing or, in theory, extended conjugation in the cured compositions.

摘要: Inner and outer primary and matrix material compositions which, after curing, exhibit a high degree of uniformity after curing even when the coating is applied onto optical fibers at relatively high shear rates, e.g., such as those experienced at high optical fiber coating line speeds. These compositions are provided in significant part by the selective incorporation of at least one radiation-curable oligomer into the compositions. In particular, and with respect to inner primary coatings, the oligomer should be selected so that the value m of an uncured radiation-curable inner primary coating composition in the equation τ = K ⁢   ⁢ λ ⁢   ⁢ γ 1 + ( λ ⁢   ⁢ γ ) m ( I ) is advantageously equal to or greater than about 0.90.
