Abstract:
Apparatus and associated systems, methods, and computer program products relate to displaying the most relevant information in a document at or near the top of a page of displayed information. The most relevant information may be determined to be relevant with respect to a set of search query terms, such as those that may be entered into a search engine, for example. In some embodiments, a selected document of interest may be formatted (i.e., transcoded) for display on a small display area, and the transcoding may be arranged to produce a first displayed page or sub-page (if the document is divided among more than one sub-page) that begins with the most relevant information in the document. By formatting transcoded pages in this manner, the most relevant information may be displayed first for immediate viewing by the user.
Abstract:
A method, computer program product, and system are provided to update geographic location information for an electronic device. The method can include transmitting the geographic location information for the electronic device to a server device at a first time interval. A determination can be made regarding whether the electronic device is in communication with a third-party device. If the electronic device is in communication with the third-party device, then updated geographic location information for the electronic device is transmitted to the server device at a second time interval, where the second time interval is shorter than the first time interval.
Abstract:
The subject matter of this specification can be embodied in, among other things, a method that includes receiving geographical information derived from a non-verbal user action associated with a first computing device. The non-verbal user action implies an interest of a user in a geographic location. The method also includes identifying a grammar associated with the geographic location using the derived geographical information and outputting a grammar indicator for use in selecting the identified grammar for voice recognition processing of vocal input from the user.

Abstract:
At a client device with a display and in a method for displaying messages at the client device, the client device receives message information from a server system, the message information representing a set of messages. In accordance with a determination that the set of messages include one or more unread priority messages, where priority messages are messages that satisfy predefined message importance criteria, the device presents a new mail notification. In accordance with a determination that the set of messages do not include any unread priority messages, the device foregoes presenting a new mail notification.

Abstract:
A voice-enabled application, which may be a voice browser, is configured to provide active help to a user. The application maintains a usage history of each user with respect to dialog states. The usage history includes various user-specific variables, some of which are valid across multiple sessions. The application maintains a number of active help prompts capable of being played to a user as speech, each containing information on a different, specific help topic. The application further maintains a number of sets of conditions, each set corresponding to a different one of the active help prompts. The application monitors dialog states during a session of a user and generates an event based on the dialog states. The application applies certain ones of the conditions to certain ones of the user-specific variables in response to the event. The application then plays a active help prompt containing information on a specific help topic to the user if the applied conditions are satisfied.
Abstract:
In a computerized method for messaging, a Web page includes an embedded tag specifying a message extension program. The Web page is requested from a Web server by a Web browser of a first client computer connected to the Web server computer by a communications network. The extension program corresponding to the message tag is retrieved. A multimedia message is recorded as digital signals in a file of the client computer using the extension program. The file is sent to a second client computer as an electronic mail message.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for priority inbox notifications and synchronization are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method includes, at a computer system, obtaining message information from a server system. The message information represents a set of messages and an importance score associated with each message in the set of messages. The importance score is generated based at least in part on a global importance prediction model and a user importance prediction model. A new mail notification is presented when a determination is made that the set of messages include one or more unread priority messages. The priority messages comprise messages with which the associated importance score satisfy one or more predefined message importance criteria: Optionally, presentation of a new mail notification is foregone when there is a determination that the set of messages do not include any unread priority messages.
Abstract:
Apparatus and associated systems, methods, and computer program products relate to identifying types of search query terms based on the location of information that matches the search query terms. The query terms may be assigned weights according to the query type. The assigned weights may be used, in conjunction with a scoring rule, to determine a score that indicates how relevant blocks of information in the selected document are to the search query terms. In one example, query terms that are located in the title or the URL information associated with a document are classified as a query type that is assigned little or no weight. In this way, relevance scoring within a document may be improved by discounting the influence of query terms that are likely to be primarily meaningful for locating (i.e., navigating to) a relevant document, but less meaningful for locating relevant information within a document.
