The extraction devices may have a powered or free spinning rotating extractor that may be mounted in the extraction device's source or extraction duct. During operation, liquid particulates impinging on the rotating extractor form a thin film of extracted liquid that travels due to centrifugal force to the periphery of the extractor's exterior surface where the extracted liquid may be flung to the inner surface of the extraction duct and collected.

Finally there is a member which non-contactingly releases strip media emerging from the print zone from the temporary liner.

    摘要: A printer has a print station and a guide path extending from a media roll station to the print station. Guide apparatus includes an inner edge guide extending along and defining an inner side edge portion of the path. In one embodiment, lateral tracking of the media through the print station is provided by a retractable outer edge guide. The outer edge guide automatically retracts when media is moved into the path through the outer side thereof. The outer edge guide is adjustable to firmly grip the opposite edges of the media between the inner and outer edge guides. In another embodiment, there is no outer edge guide. Instead, one or more tracking wheels are urged against a face of media moving along the path. The wheels are canted in order to provide a laterally inward force on the media. The laterally inward force automatically urges the media against the inner edge guide in both directions of media motion.

In one embodiment, the variable torque assembly is a torque divider that divides a fixed amount of torque between a supply reel and a take-up reel. The ratio of torques on the supply and take-up reels is controller by a control stepper motor that adjusts respective Acme gears to adjust pressure on respective clutch plates to increase or decrease the amount of "drag" applied by the clutch plates. In another embodiment, separate control stepper motors control torque to each of the supply and take-up reels so that the overall amount of torque can be varied to accommodate changes in print media lengths.

    摘要: This is a cutter assembly for linerless strip media having an uncovered adhesive backing. There is a cutter mounted for transverse movement across the media and a backing bar with at least two cutting edges. The backing bar can be rotated to place one of the cutting edges in position to cooperate with the cutter to cut the media. The backing bar is rotatable about a transverse axis simultaneously with feed movement of the media at a rotational speed equal to the feed speed of the media. This causes the media to ride up on a pointed portion of a cutting edge without dragging across the cutting edge as the cutting edge moves into a use position in which the media is supported by a support surface of the cutting edge. A cleaning station cleans the previously used cutting edge as the bar is rotated. Rotating and fixed cutters can be used. The cutter is replaceable and can be supplied in combination with an associated media for which it is designed. The cutter may partially cut the media to make it separate without fouling the cutter with adhesive. A self-healing "solid" roller is also disclosed.

    摘要: An apparatus for use in a thermal printer for printing bar code symbols onto a paper substrate material is provided which utilizes a ribbon having a multi-transfer ink layer. The thermal printer enables the ink ribbon to be transported at a rate that is selectively lower than the transporting rate of the paper substrate. The thermal printer comprises a platen and a thermal head disposed adjacent to the platen having a region defined therebetween through which the paper substrate material is transported at a first rate. Images or symbols are imprinted onto the paper substrate material by operation of the thermal head in cooperation with ink from the multi-transfer ink ribbon advanced to the region. A supply hub carries a supply of the ribbon, and a first motor is mechanically linked to the supply hub. The first motor rotates the hub in a direction opposite to a direction of advancement of the ribbon. A roller is mechanically linked to the first motor and has a surface engaging the ribbon provided with a friction coefficient sufficient to prevent slippage of the ribbon across the surface. A second motor applies a tension on the ribbon, and a clutch interposed between the first motor and the supply hub permits controlled slippage of the supply hub to permit advancement of the ribbon. A take-up hub mechanically linked to the second motor receives the ribbon after its passage through the region between the platen and the thermal head.
