摘要: This is a cutter assembly for linerless strip media having an uncovered adhesive backing. There is a cutter for transverse movement across the media and a backing bar with at least two cutting edges. The backing bar can be rotated to place one of the cutting edges in contact with the cutter. A cleaning station cleans the previously used cutting edge as the bar is rotated. Rotating and fixed cutters can be used. The cutter is replaceable and can be supplied in combination with as associated media for which it is designed. The cutter may partially cut the media to make it separate without fouling the cutter with adhesive. A self-healing "solid" roller is also disclosed.

摘要: This is a cutter assembly for linerless strip media having an uncovered adhesive backing. There is a cutter mounted for transverse movement across the media and a backing bar with at least two cutting edges. The backing bar can be rotated to place one of the cutting edges in position to cooperate with the cutter to cut the media. The backing bar is rotatable about a transverse axis simultaneously with feed movement of the media at a rotational speed equal to the feed speed of the media. This causes the media to ride up on a pointed portion of a cutting edge without dragging across the cutting edge as the cutting edge moves into a use position in which the media is supported by a support surface of the cutting edge. A cleaning station cleans the previously used cutting edge as the bar is rotated. Rotating and fixed cutters can be used. The cutter is replaceable and can be supplied in combination with an associated media for which it is designed. The cutter may partially cut the media to make it separate without fouling the cutter with adhesive. A self-healing "solid" roller is also disclosed.

摘要: Extraction devices are disclosed for extracting liquid particulates from a gaseous stream. The extraction devices may have a powered or free spinning rotating extractor that may be mounted in the extraction device's source or extraction duct. During operation, liquid particulates impinging on the rotating extractor form a thin film of extracted liquid that travels due to centrifugal force to the periphery of the extractor's exterior surface where the extracted liquid may be flung to the inner surface of the extraction duct and collected.

摘要: A system integrating a bar code printer and a bar code reader into a single functional unit having a single interface port which serves both the printer and the reader and communicates with a host computer. The interface port can include a parser to receive commands from the host computer and parse the received commands into printer and reader commands. The printer and the reader can communicate directly with each other without requiring the intervention of the host computer. The interface can include a wireless transceiver to permit remote operation of the unit. The unit can also be a stand alone system that does not require the host computer. In the standalone embodiment, an internal controller generates commands to control operation of the printer and receiver. The standalone instrument can also include an interface to communicate with an optional host computer.

摘要: An apparatus for use in a thermal printer for printing bar code symbols onto a paper substrate material is provided which utilizes a ribbon having a multi-transfer ink layer. The thermal printer enables the ink ribbon to be transported at a rate that is selectively lower than the transporting rate of the paper substrate. The thermal printer comprises a platen and a thermal head disposed adjacent to the platen having a region defined therebetween through which the paper substrate material is transported at a first rate. Images or symbols are imprinted onto the paper substrate material by operation of the thermal head in cooperation with ink from the multi-transfer ink ribbon advanced to the region. A supply hub carries a supply of the ribbon, and a first motor is mechanically linked to the supply hub. The first motor rotates the hub in a direction opposite to a direction of advancement of the ribbon. A roller is mechanically linked to the first motor and has a surface engaging the ribbon provided with a friction coefficient sufficient to prevent slippage of the ribbon across the surface. A second motor applies a tension on the ribbon, and a clutch interposed between the first motor and the supply hub permits controlled slippage of the supply hub to permit advancement of the ribbon. A take-up hub mechanically linked to the second motor receives the ribbon after its passage through the region between the platen and the thermal head.

摘要: An apparatus and method for sensing gaps between labels adhered to a backing material in longitudinally spaced-apart positions as the backing material travels along the print path of a thermal printer. An array of light-emitting diodes oriented transverse to the print path illuminates the backing material. A fiber optic detects the light transmitted through the backing material and passes the light to a photodiode. The photodiode produces an analog electrical signal indicative of the amount of light transmitted, which varies depending on whether the light has passed through only the backing material or through both the backing material and the print media it carries. The analog signal is converted to a digital signal which is processed by a microprocessor to monitor and control the advancement of the print media and backing material through the printer.

摘要: Linerless label stock 102 is fed to a printer that prints on the front face 104 of the label stock 102 and then to a media cutter 224. The cutter 224 cuts the strip into discrete labels, which are fed to a tag application station 226. A strip of electronic tags is fed through an encoder that detects defective tags and then to a tag cutter 246 that cuts the strip into discrete tags. Defective tags exiting the cutter 246 are diverted away from the tag application station. Non-defective tags are conveyed to the tag application station 226 where they are secured to the back face of labels.

摘要: An apparatus for providing back tension onto a print media web comprises a plate having a post extended perpendicularly therefrom. The post is adapted to support a roll of print media thereon such that a web of the print media roll is paid out by rotation of the roll about the post. A constant-force spring is attached to a portion of the media plate at and has a handle coupled to an opposite end of the spring. A pressing element is coupled to the handle such that the spring is biased to urge the pressing element against the media supply roll to maintain the roll firmly in contact with the post during rotation of the roll. The force provided by the pressing element onto the media supply roll imparts sufficient back tension on the print media web to maintain a constant pay out rate. The present back tension apparatus provides a relatively simple mechanism that is readily adaptable for many conventional printers, such as a thermal transfer printer.

摘要: A brake apparatus for a printer is provided which rapidly decelerates and stops a rotating roll of print media in between printing operations, and allows the roll to rotate freely during printing operations. The printer includes a print head mechanism that draws a print media to a print region from a roll of the print media. A roller supports the roll of print media and permits the roll to rotate freely upon application of a drawing force from the print head mechanism. A brake drum is axially coupled to the roller. A lever arm is affixed at a first end thereof to a support structure of the printer and is pivotal between a first position and a second position. A second end of the lever arm has a pedal disposed at a portion of a path along which the print media follows toward the print region. The lever arm is pivoted to the first position by tightening of the print media upon application of the drawing force from the print head mechanism, and is pivoted to the second position upon slackening of the print media. A brake pad is coupled to an intermediate portion of the lever arm, and comes into contact with the brake drum only upon pivoting of the lever arm to the second position.
