    摘要: A blood treatment system has a housing formed of transparent plastic material configured so that substantially the entire blood flow path is visible. A generally planar blood filtration media assembly divides a blood treatment chamber within the housing into first and second interior spaces that are visible through the transparent housing, with a cardiotomy manifold in fluid communication with the first interior space and a venous blood inlet in fluid communication with the second interior space. A generally planar blood defoamer media assembly is provided generally parallel with and spaced apart from the blood filtration media assembly. The blood defoamer media assembly divides the second interior space from the blood storage chamber. The blood flow path along each side of the blood filtration media assembly and each side of the blood defoamer media assembly is visible.

    摘要: An apparatus for handling a patient's blood during a medical procedure which is convertible for use after the procedure for at least one further use. The apparatus comprises a reservoir having a port comprising at least one opening. A primary device, alignable with the port for adapting the reservoir for use during the procedure. The apparatus further comprises one or more secondary devices each alignable with the port means for adapting the reservoir for one or more further uses after the procedure. The primary device and the secondary devices are slidably mounted on the apparatus between tracks, with the primary device initially aligned with the port to allow the reservoir to be used during the medical procedure. The tracks allow the primary device to be moved out of alignment with the port and allow at least one of the secondary devices to be moved into alignment with the port so that the reservoir can be used after the medical procedure.

    摘要: A blood reservoir adapted for use in an extracorporeal circulatory support circuit. The blood reservoir comprises a housing having a chamber for holding blood, an outlet in the housing for draining blood from the chamber, and first and second inlets for supplying venous blood to the chamber. The first inlet includes an first inlet tube extending from the top in the vertical-downward direction into the chamber, and the second inlet tube having a generally inverted U-shape extending into the chamber from the bottom of the chamber. A bowl-shaped fluid trap is positioned to trap fluid adjacent the downstream ends of the first and second inlet tubes. A novel fluid trap having an upwardly facing fluid trap portion, and an inverted bowl shaped portion is also disclosed.

    摘要: A blood reservoir adapted for use in an extracorporeal circulatory support circuit. The blood reservoir comprises a housing having a chamber for holding blood, an outlet in the housing for draining blood from the chamber, and an inlet for supplying venous blood to the chamber. The inlet includes an inlet tube positioned at a greater elevation in use of the reservoir than the minimum specified level of fluid in the reservoir. A cup-shaped fluid trap is mounted on the inlet tube to trap fluid at the downstream end of the inlet tube. A novel deflector disk is also provided to deflect other fluid from the fluid trap and to mount the fluid trap on the inlet tube.

    摘要: A connection system for facilitating connections with an apparatus for handling medical fluids, such as blood, to adapt the apparatus for one or more particular uses. The system includes one or more connector blocks having an access opening and at least one connection device, such as a fitting for mounting medical grade tubing, in fluid communication with the access opening, and a seal tray for slidably mounting a connector block and initialy sealing the access opening in the connector block. A track and a part are provided on the apparatus, with the track being adapted to slidably mount the connector block on the apparatus such that the access opening of the block can be moved into and out of alignment with the port. The seal tray and the track are so configured that the seal tray can be aligned with the track to allow the connector block to be moved at least partially off of the sealing tray onto the track, thereby to bring the connector block's access openings into alignment with the port.

The cannula is preferably formed by taking a generally tubular blank having an area in which the wall of the blank is thicker than the surrounding areas, and bending the blank in this area of increased thickness. The blank may be formed by molding the blank in a mold with a core pin bent or configured to form the area of increased thickness on one side of the blank.
