Abstract:
A method and apparatus for dynamically allocating a mobile network prefix to a mobile terminal, in which the mobile terminal is associated with a user equipment. The method includes sending a message from the user equipment to a home agent to establish a security association between the user equipment and the home agent. The message includes a request for a mobile network prefix to be assigned to the mobile terminal equipment. The method further includes the home agent allocating a mobile network prefix to be assigned to the mobile terminal equipment, and assigning the allocated mobile network prefix to the mobile terminal equipment.
Abstract:
A media access gateway includes a wireless network interface, an address assignment module, a proxy mobility agent module, and a profile module. The wireless network interface establishes a link with a wireless terminal. The address assignment module receives an address request message, including a mobility signal, from the wireless terminal. The proxy mobility agent module selectively transmits a proxy binding update to a local mobility anchor, and receives a proxy binding acknowledgement. The address assignment module transmits an address assignment message to the wireless terminal in response to the mobility signal indicating support or preference for proxy mobility. The address assignment message is based on address information in the proxy binding acknowledgement. The profile module retrieves a profile for the wireless terminal from a server. The address assignment module selectively transmits a second address assignment message to the wireless terminal based on the address information in the profile.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for establishing connectivity between a mobile node and a plurality of packet data networks. The method includes establishing a first connection between a mobile node and a first packet data network, the first connection being made through a first access network; establishing a second connection between the mobile node and a second packet data network, the second connection being made through a second access data network; establishing a third connection between the mobile node and the first packet data network, the third connection being made through the second access network; and simultaneously sending data from the mobile node to the first packet data network over the first connection and the third connection.
Abstract:
A media access gateway includes a wireless network interface that establishes a wireless link with a wireless terminal. An address assignment module transmits N address assignment messages to the wireless terminal. The N address assignment messages include a plurality of address components and associate the plurality of address components with a plurality of packet data networks, where N is an integer greater than zero.
Abstract:
A wireless terminal comprises a wireless network interface, an address determination module, and an application module. The wireless network interface receives N address assignment messages over a wireless link, where N is an integer greater than zero. The address determination module extracts a plurality of address components from the N address assignment messages and associates the plurality of address components with a plurality of packet data networks. The application module selectively exchanges packets with one of the plurality of packet data networks based on an associated one of the plurality of address components.
Abstract:
A network control module includes an access module that determines whether a first packet data network gateway communicating with a first packet data network also communicates with a second packet data network. The network control module also includes a selection control module in communication with a mobile wireless terminal. The mobile wireless terminal attempts to access the second packet data network by establishing a connection with a second packet data network gateway that communicates with the second packet data network. In response to the access module determining that the first packet data network gateway also communicates with the second packet data network, the selection control module commands the mobile wireless terminal to access the second packet data network through the first packet data network gateway.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for performing a handover of a communication session from a non-3GPP access network to a 3GPP access network in which only a Gn/Gp-based Serving GPRS Support Node has been deployed in the 3GPP access network. The method includes establishing the communication session between a user equipment and an Evolved Packet Core through the non-3GPP access network, and performing a handover of the communication session from the non-3GPP access network to the 3GPP access network. Performing the handover includes providing information to the UE of a selected packet data network gateway prior to performing the handover, and providing the information of the selected packet data network gateway from the user equipment to the 3GPP access network during the handover to maintain continuity of the communication session between the user equipment and the Evolved Packet Core.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for performing a handover of network connections upon a mobile terminal moving from a first access network to a second access network. The method includes obtaining IP connectivity and a first IP address for the mobile terminal through the first access network. In response to the mobile terminal moving from the first access network to the second access network, the method further includes sending a request for a new IP connectivity and a second IP address over the second access network, the request indicating a need to handover the network connections from the first access network to the second access network.
Abstract:
A media access gateway comprises a wireless network interface, an address assignment module, and a proxy mobility agent module. The wireless network interface establishes a wireless link with a wireless terminal. The address assignment module receives an address request message, which includes a mobility signal from the wireless terminal. The proxy mobility agent module selectively transmits a proxy binding update to a local mobility anchor and receives a proxy binding acknowledgement from the local mobility anchor. The address assignment module selectively transmits an address assignment message to the wireless terminal when the mobility signal indicates proxy mobility. The address assignment message is based on address information in the proxy binding acknowledgement.
