摘要： In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method for counting demand accesses of a first thread associated with a prefetch detector to obtain a count value, accumulating the count value with an accumulated count at detector deallocation, and throttling prefetching in the first thread based on an average obtained from the accumulated count. An override mechanism may permit prefetching based on demand accesses associated with a particular prefetch detector. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
