    摘要: A toggle switch includes a main housing that contains an electrical contact assembly operated by a cam member which opens and closes the contacts through movement of a leaf spring. The switch further includes a modular assembly of a housing cover to which a manually operable pivotable handle is mounted and is connected to a rotatable bushing supported shaft. The shaft operates a gear set attached to the cam member. The contacts provide an electrical connection to terminals that are insert molded into the housing. The terminals are configured to be provided with wire connecting screws accessible from the rear of the housing. The switch is thus explosion proof in construction and the rear mounted terminal screws avoid the possibility of shorting the live terminals to an associated metal electrical box. The switch is also readily constructed by known manufacturing methods and is capable of being directly installed in a standard electrical box thus avoiding the need for a separate explosion proof enclosure.

    摘要: A pair of fixed contacts is associated with a pair of movable contacts. All of the contacts have circular contact faces. A U-shaped stainless steel arc shield is provided adjacent each set of movable and fixed contacts. The semi-circular bight portion of the arc shield forms part of an imaginary circle having its center concentric with the centers of the contacts. Thus, the outer arcuate portions of the contacts are in constant spaced relationship with the arcuate portion of the adjacent arc shield. The actuator for the contacts provides for sequential opening of the sets of movable and fixed contacts.

    摘要: An electrical switch and switch contact are disclosed, both of which are advantageous for use in an environment containing explosive gases or vapors. The switch housing is designed so that the two joints where explosive gases or vapors can enter or exit into the switch interior can cool any hot gases escaping from the switch interior. Therefore, if any explosive gases or vapors are ignited by an arc in the switch interior, they are cooled during their exit from the switch, so that they cannot ignite the explosive environment outside the switch. This is done using a labyrinthine path between the two switch housing members, and a lengthy metal-to-metal, metal-to-ceramic, or ceramic-to-ceramic path between the switch actuator and the switch housing. The contact is designed such that it has a greater flexural length, without requiring a substantial increase in the housing body volume. This allows a smaller amount of hazardous gas or vapor to come into contact with a potential arc. The contact design allows a good degree of overtravel and a contact cleaning action, both of which contribute to the reliability of the electrical connection made by the switch.

    摘要: The drain hole core for a drain seal fitting includes an elongated elastomeric member having a handle on one end, a rod-like member on the other end, and a integral plug between the handle and rod-like member. The drain hole core is inserted into the drain opening of the drain seal fitting such that the rod-like member extends up into the bore extending through the drain seal fitting and the plug seals the drain opening. A dam seals that area between the electrical wiring and the internal circumferential wall of the lower portion of the drain seal fitting. A sealing compound is then poured into an access opening in the side of the drain seal fitting so as to seal the bore of the drain seal fitting and to cover a portion of the rod-like member. Once the rod-like member is removed, it acts as a mold and provides a drain path from that portion of the bore above the sealing compound to the drain opening. The drain opening is then closed with a drain fitting. Upon the accumulation of water above the sealing compound, the accumulated water passes through the drain path and out the drain fitting.

    摘要: An explosion-proof electrical apparatus comprises two enclosures containing electrical devices. The enclosures are physically interconnected by a one-piece or two-piece hollow sleeve member which is screwed into threaded holes of the enclosures. A fitting assembly mounted in the sleeve member comprises a hollow feedthrough bushing screwed into the sleeve member, a hollow feedthrough seal member screwed into the feedthrough bushing, and a plurality of conductors extending through the feedthrough seal member and electrically connected to the electrical devices. The conductors are embedded in sealing compound which occupies the feedthrough seal member. During assembly of the fitting assembly, the feedthrough seal member is positioned within the sleeve, and the feedthrough bushing is screwed along the feedthrough seal member and is simultaneously screwed into the sleeve.

    摘要: The present invention serves to prevent severe injury, loss of life or damage to expensive equipment by creating a system in which the conductors of a plug and the conductors of a receptacle can only be arranged, one with respect to the other, in a unique rotational manner depending upon the intended electrical rating of the plug and receptacle. The resulting plug will mate only with a receptacle having that same configuration. A separate indexer is disposed between the plug body and the conductor assembly to the conductors in the plug to prevent entry of the plug into a differently indexed receptacle. A polarizer in the receptacle fixes the conductor assembly of the receptacle in the same manner as the plug, to allow the plug and receptacle to be mated together when the receptacle is wired for the same electrical rating as the equipment to be energized by the plug. Visual means of identifying the rotational attitude of conductors is provided whereby the electrical rating of the plug or receptacle can be easily identified. The visual means of identification may include color as well as printed coding information.

    摘要: A ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) circuit breaker test circuit for use with panelboards uses a selector switch, normally open switch, and a resistor to simulate a fault condition at the load output node of any one of several GFCI circuit breakers.
