摘要: A method and system are provided for automatically portioning workpieces, such as food products, into both shape and other user-defined specification(s). Workpieces are portioned both to shape and weight, such as to a weight-specific uniform shape, by adjusting (e.g., scaling up and down or slightly modifying) a desired template shape until the desired weight is achieved depending on the varying thickness of each workpiece. For example, from a thicker workpiece, a smaller-sized piece having a predefined shape and weight is portioned, while from a thinner workpiece, a larger-sized piece having the same predefined shape and weight is portioned. The system permits a user to scan in and edit a desired (reference) shape to be used as a template in the portioning process.

摘要: A portioning system (10) includes a scanner (16) for scanning a passing poultry breast (14). A cutting device (18), a slicing device (20) and/or other equipment may be used to portion, trim, or otherwise process the poultry breast under the control of a computer (22). The computer also utilizes the information from the scanner to determine position and the angular orientation of the poultry breast relative to a reference line by determining directional lines corresponding to physical attributes of the poultry breast. One directional line is related to the principal axis of the poultry breast, determined from the axis of least inertia of the poultry breast when analyzing the regions of the poultry breast above a selected elevation of the poultry breast.

摘要: A system and method are provided for automatically defining acceptable shape requirements for an object. A reference shape is a shape that the object should be in, and the acceptable shape requirements define an acceptable shape of the object that may deviate from the reference shape and yet is acceptable to a user. The system includes two elements: a processor, and a scanner coupled to the processor for scanning objects and sending scanned information of the objects to the processor. The processor is configured to perform three steps: (i) receiving scanned information of two or more acceptable shapes from the scanner; (ii) combining the scanned information of the two or more acceptable shapes to define acceptable shape requirements; and (iii) storing the acceptable shape requirements. The processor may be further configured to perform the steps of: (iv) receiving a scanned shape of an object from the scanner, and (v) determining whether the scanned shape of the object is in conformance to the acceptable shape requirements.

摘要: Processing a work piece by first scanning the work piece. The work piece is modeled to determine its outer perimeter and/or how the work piece could be divided into portions of specific areas and perimeters based on desired portion sizes of desired areas and perimeters. The modeled work piece and/or the modeled portions are compared with the one or more desired perimeter configurations. The deviation of the modeled outer perimeter size of the work piece and/or portions from the desired perimeter configuration(s) is calculated. Based on such calculations, one or more steps in processing the work piece and/or portions therefrom is carried out. Such one or more steps may include modeling the work piece again, using different modeling criteria or options, if the calculated deviation is outside an acceptable range.

摘要: A system and method for determining how food products might be portioned includes a scanner for scanning the food product and then using a computer to analyze the scanning data to develop a volume distribution of the food product. The computer operating scanning software carries out modeling to determine potential sets of end products achievable from the initial work product, taking into consideration the possibility of adjusting the thickness of the food product, either before or after cutting of the food product occurs. The computer evaluates the potential yield provided by the potential sets of end products and then one of the potential sets of end products is selected. Thereafter, the present system or a further portioning system is used to cut and optionally adjust the thickness of the food product, either before or after the cutting occurs, thereby to achieve the selected end product set.

摘要: A method is provided for classifying incoming products (e.g., chicken butterflies) to be portioned into two or more types of end products (e.g., sandwich portions, strips, nuggets, etc.) to meet production goals. The method includes generally five steps. First, information on incoming products is received. Second, for each incoming product, a parameter value (e.g., the weight of an end product to be produced from the incoming product) is calculated for each of the two or more types of end products that may be produced from the incoming product. Third, the calculated parameter values for the incoming products for the two or more types of end products, respectively, are normalized so as to meet the production goals while at the same time achieving optimum parameter values. Fourth, for each incoming product, the end product with the best (e.g., largest) normalized parameter value is selected as the end product to be produced from the incoming product. Fifth, each incoming product is portioned to produce the end product selected in the fourth step.
