摘要： In the illustrated applicators, one of a series of pavement markers is individually dispensed from a carrier web by stripping the web back from the marker while moving the marker into wedging contact between a spring-loaded roller and the pavement. While doing so, the carrier web is kept taut between a brake shoe where it exits a magazine and an overdriven takeup roll which is locked against rotation while the marker is being moved into the wedging contact. Each pavement marker has a flat base which preferably bears a pressure-sensitive adhesive that releasably adheres the marker to the carrier web and bonds the marker to the pavement.

摘要： Apparatus for applying tape to a paved surface to form markings on the surface, said apparatus being supported for movement along the paved surface by wheel means including at least one roller, and further including tape support means for rotatably supporting a roll of tape; tape guide means positioned above a leading edge of the roller; tape advance means for advancing tape that extends from the roll of tape over the tape guide means into position for the roller to press the tape against the paved surface; and cutting means for cutting the tape while it extends under tension from the roller to the tape guide means.

摘要： Method and apparatus are disclosed for automatically applying pavement marking tape to roadway surfaces using a self-propelled vehicle. Tapes can be applied in continuous stripes or intermittent stripes of variable spacing or length while the vehicle is in motion. Methods are also disclosed for changing rolls of tapes while the vehicle is in motion, and thereby reducing stopping times for splicing. The tape application mechanism can be enclosed within the vehicle so that the operator is protected from traffic hazards.
