The catalytic converter comprises a shell having an inlet chamber, catalyst chamber, and an outlet chamber. The axial lines of the inlet ports are arranged to cross each other in the inlet chamber at a position near, but upstream of, the upstream facing end of said monolithic catalyst element, so that gas flow can diffuse to the entire plane of the element.

摘要： Apparatus for purifying the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines comprising a pair of upstream exhaust pipes, a catalytic converter, and a downstream exhaust pipe. The catalytic converter comprises a cylindrical shell having an inlet chamber, a catalyst chamber, an outlet chamber, and a monolithic catalyst element in the catalyst chamber. The inlet chamber has inlet ports communicating with the upstream exhaust pipes respectively and axial lines of the inlet ports cross each other in the inlet chamber. In the inlet chamber, a diffusion means is provided to diffuse the exhaust gas for uniformly distributing it to the catalyst element.

摘要： An exhaust gas purification system for internal combustion engine having a thermal reactor interposed in the exhaust passage. The thermal reactor comprises a heat insulated inner shell for defining a reaction chamber therein and a core shell provided in the core shell spaced therefrom for providing a space between the both shells. A pair of exhaust pipes communicating with the exhaust valves of the engine are inserted into the core shell through an opening of the core shell so as to form a confluence and constant swirling of the exhaust gases in the core shell to provide a high temperature zone in the center of the swirling. The opening of the core shell is narrowed for preventing high temperature zone from moving out of the reaction chamber.

摘要： A thermal reactor system for oxidizing unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide emitted from internal combustion engines, which comprises a thermal reaction chamber of convex shape defined by an inner wall of an inner shell, the latter being spaced from an outer shell forming an exhaust passage between the shells. The reaction chamber communicates with an exhaust pipe connected to the exhaust port of the engine. The exhaust pipe is inserted into the reaction chamber through an outlet opening of the reaction chamber. The end opening of the exhaust pipe and the outlet opening of the reaction chamber are disposed such that the exhaust gases emitted from the end opening of the exhaust pipe swirls in the reaction chamber and exhausts through the outlet opening after swirling and enters the exhaust passage communicating therewith.
