    摘要: A regenerative turbine pump apparatus which includes a housing having an inlet and an outlet and a generally circular impeller having a circumference and a geometric axis. The impeller is mounted for rotation within the housing about the geometric axis and has first and second generally circular faces. At least the first generally circular face has a plurality of vanes extending from the circumference generally toward the geometric axis. Each of the vanes has generally planar mutually parallel side walls disposed in oblique relationship to a tangent to the impeller proximate to the intersection of the vane and the circumference. Adjacent vanes about the circumference each being separated by a slot extending from the circumference and extending to a substantially rectilinear line, the substantially rectilinear lines collectively define a plurality of steps around the impeller.

The impeller has an outer diameter and a channel ring is disposed around the impeller. The channel ring has a first arcuate portion that has a first radius to provide a substantially uniform first clearance with respect to the outer diameter of the impeller and the first arcuate portion extends throughout a major part of the channel ring. The channel ring includes a second arcuate portion proximate to the inlet having a second clearance with respect to the outer diameter of the impeller that is greater than the first clearance.

    摘要: In one embodiment according to the invention, there is provided a method of sensing a response of a living cell or virus to a change in conditions. The method comprises applying an essentially constant external electromotive force that causes oscillation of an acoustic wave device at essentially constant amplitude and frequency under steady state conditions. The acoustic wave device has attached at least one living cell or virus. A combined oscillating system including the acoustic wave device and the living cell or virus exhibits a fundamental frequency and at least one harmonic frequency of the combined oscillating system. The living cell or virus is exposed to a change in an environmental condition while oscillating the combined oscillating system under the essentially constant external electromotive force, whereby a response of the living cell or virus to the change in environmental condition will be indicated by a change in at least one of frequency and amplitude of the oscillation of at least one harmonic frequency of the combined oscillating system.

    摘要: A fabrication method for forming polymer nanopillars using an anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane and an imprint process. A substrate is cleaned and a water soluble tape is applied to the substrate to define a coating area. The substrate is spin-coated with a polymer solution and an AAO membrane is placed on top of the coated area on the substrate and turned over whereby a silicon wafer is attached onto the AAO membrane forming an AAO membrane assembly, which is pressed in an imprintor. Then, the AAO membrane assembly is removed from the imprintor, it is disassembled, and the AAO membrane is dissolved in a NaOH solution forming a polymer substrate with nanopillars.
