Abstract:
An ink for ink jet printers which comprises an aqueous carrier medium, pigment dispersion or dye and a polyol/alkylene oxide condensate cosolvent which eliminates film formation on thermal ink jet resistor surfaces thereby eliminating non-uniformity in optical density. The cosolvent present at least 5% has a solubility in water of at least 4.5 parts in 100 parts of water at 25.degree. C. and a general formula: ##STR1## wherein X=--H or --CH.sub.3 ;R=--H, --CH.sub.3, --C.sub.2 H.sub.5, --C.sub.3 H.sub.7, --C.sub.4 H.sub.9, or --CH.sub.2 O(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.e H;b=0 or 1,a+d+f(c+e)=2-100; andf=1-6, the cosolvent being present in the amount of at least 4.5% based on the total weight of the ink jet ink composition. These inks exhibit freedom from thermal resistor film formation, have excellent decap performance, are storage stable and give images having excellent print quality.

Abstract:
A dry nonelectroscopic toner surface coated with 3 to 40% by weight of an organofunctional substituted fluorocarbon compound. Toners of the invention are useful for developing photosensitive elements having imagewise tacky and complementary nontacky image areas. The surface coating imparts good toning and clean-up characteristics, together with improved performance on aging.
Abstract:
A process for alleviating bleed and improving color in printed elements comprises applying an anionic printing liquid and a cationic printing liquid to a substrate adjacent to one another, wherein at least one of the printing liquids contains a polymer and reacting the anionic and cationic printing liquids with one another; wherein the color integrity of the anionic and cationic printing liquids is maintained.
Abstract:
Ink jet ink compositions consisting essentially of an aqueous carrier medium; an anionic dye; and an anionic polymer have excellent decap and puddling behavior and may be used with a variety of ink jet printers such as continuous, piezoelectric, drop-on-demand and thermal or bubble jet drop-on-demand, and are particularly adapted for use in thermal ink jet printers.
Abstract:
Aqueous ink compositions containing anti-curl agents substantially reduce or eliminate paper curl in plain-paper printed elements without adversely effecting storage stability, decap properties or print quality, and thus eliminate the need for expensive and bulky mechanical curl-arresting devices or special curl-resistant substrates. Printing the inks on plain-paper substrates is the sole step in a process for reducing paper curl in plain-paper printed elements.
Abstract:
An ink for ink jet printers which comprises an aqueous carrier medium, pigment dispersion or dye and a cosolvent which retards or inhibits pluggage failure. The latter is an cycloaliphatic diol having a total of at least 6 carbon atoms and having a solubility in water of at least 4.5 parts in 100 parts of water at 25.degree. C.The pigment dispersion consists of pigment particles and a dispersant, preferably a polymeric dispersant, having a hydrophilic segment and a segment that links to the pigment. These inks exhibit long decap times, are storage stable, have reliable performance and give images having good print quality.
Abstract:
Yellow crystal stable pigment of mono-azo type having an average particle size of 0.02 to 0.8 .mu.m, the pigment having on its surface a crystal growth inhibitor compound having substantially similar chemical structure as the pigment, being more soluble than the pigment in solvents used to disperse the pigment, the inhibitor compound not fitting within the crystal lattice of the pigment. The crystal growth of pigment dispersions due to Ostwald ripening can be prevented by adding a crystal growth inhibitor as noted above to the pigment dispersion. The pigments can be dispersed in an organic polymeric binder, e.g., cellulose acetate, to form yellow toners which are useful in toning photosensitive color proofing systems.
Abstract:
Dry nonelectroscopic toner comprising pigmented organic resin particles having a size distribution of 0.2 to 30 micrometers, surface coated with at least 0.1% by weight of silicone oil or fluorocarbon compound, in combination with at least 0.5% by weight of a water soluble, polymeric quaternary ammonium compound as defined. The toner is useful in color developing positive- and negative-working photosensitive elements. The toners, particularly magenta and cyan, exhibit high density and excellent stability.
