Disclosed are novel materials separated from Ecklonia cava, a method for extracting and purifying the same, and the use thereof for antioxidants. The method comprises extracting antioxidative ingredients from powdered Ecklonia cava one or more times with an organic solvent; fractionating the antioxidative ingredients one or more times in solvents; and purifying the solvent fractions by chromatography. Superior in scavenging activity and thermal stability, the extract from Ecklonia cava can be used as antioxidants and is suitable in commercialization.

Disclosed are a composition for reducing beta amyloid-induced neurotoxicity by inhibiting β-secretase activity, comprising a dibenzofuran derivative, and a method for preparing the same. Further disclosed is that the combination of the dibenzofuran derivative with a γ-secretase inhibitor or an anti-inflammatory agent shows higher activity with respect to reducing beta amyloid-induced neurotoxicity.

The present invention relates to compositions for skin protection and improvement that contain dibenzo-p-dioxine derivatives as effective components. Since the compositions for skin protection and improvement that contain the dibenzo-p-dioxine derivative according to the present invention have excellent functions such as moisturizing and/or wrinkle prevention which are useful in prevention and improvement of various skin diseases, they can be extensively used as cosmetic ingredients or pharmaceutical agents for prevention and improvement of skin diseases.

This invention relates to a polymer having functional groups at both terminals comprising the steps of: preparing a difunctional initiator by recating divinyl aromatic material and an organo-lithium compound in the presence of a hydrocarbon solvent; synthesizing a random copolymer derived from an aromatic vinyl and conjugated diene monomer at only one terminal of two anionic terminals; adding a polar additive to activate both terminals of said copolymer, followed by the addition of an electrophilic material. The polymer material, so prepared, has an excellent combination of properties such as improved rolling resistance for use in making tire rubber treads, since it can enhance the polymer-filler interaction.

This invention relates to a process for preparing a block copolymer composition, wherein it comprises following successive steps:a step in which a vinyl aromatic monomer is polymerized in a reactor in the presence of an inert hydrocarbon solvent and organolithium initiator until depletion of the monomer to generate a living polymer; a step in which a conjugated diene monomer is added to the above polymer to synthesize a living diblock copolymer; a step in which a portion of polymerization terminator is added to partially inactivate the living diblock copolymer; steps in which a conjugated diene monomer and aromatic vinyl monomer are sequentially added to generate a mixture of living triblock copolymer and inactivated diblock copolymer; a step in which a polymerization terminator is added to complete the reaction.This invention has advantages of providing easy, wide-range and fine control of block copolymer compositions in a reactor via well-controlled termination reactions during the sequential block copolymerization.

Disclosed is a composition for treating arthritis containing a dibenzo-p-dioxin derivative as an active ingredient. This dibenzo-p-dioxin derivative is very effective in inhibiting NF-kB and AP-1 activity, alleviates the symptoms of degenerative arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis without irritating the skin or causing side effects, and can continue to exhibit improvement effects for a considerable period of time after discontinuation of treatment. Additionally, when the dibenzo-p-dioxin derivative is contained in liposomes, the composition of the invention exhibits much greater effects on treating arthritis by absorption through skin, and thus is useful for the treatment of degenerative arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
