A liquid crystal display device and a driving method for a liquid crystal display. The liquid crystal display device is formed to have thin film transistor conductive channels having an inverted “U”-shape. A shielding plate is provided to block incident light from reaching the conductive channels of the thin film transistors. This reduces or eliminates photo-induced leakage current and picture quality degradation. To prevent pixel electrode potential fluctuations caused by subsequent scan line drive signals, the liquid crystal display device is driven by scan signals that are sequentially applied from the mth gate line up to the first gate line.

The present invention includes a thin film transistor plate having a gate line, a data line, a gate electrode, a thin film transistor, a passivation layer, and a pixel electrode, a color filter plate including a black matrix, a color filter and a common electrode on a second transparent substrate, and liquid crystals injected and sealed between the thin film transistor plate and the color filter plate, wherein the black matrix of the color filter plate is overlapped asymmetrically with the data line of the thin film transistor plate.

In the panel, a link part is provided within the lower plate in a direction crossing the seal to apply a driving signal from the exterior thereof to the picture display part. An organic protective film is entirely coated on the lower plate provided with the link part and has a hole formed in such a manner that the link part contacts the seal. Accordingly, an adhesive between the seal and the lower plate is improved, so that a leakage of the liquid crystal caused by the exterior impact can be prevented.
