Abstract: A probe includes a shaft and an applicator head designed to treat irregularly-shaped hollow cavities, such as a cavity in breast tissue created by a lumpectomy procedure. The applicator head has a fixed geometry, and a plurality of electrodes can be advanced from an exterior surface of the applicator head in an omnidirectional pattern. The electrodes are used to deliver radiofrequency current or other energy to ablate the marginal tissue.

Abstract: The invention is an accessory configured to be fitted to an electrical surgical device and provide suction at a surgical site in which the electrical surgical device is being used. In particular, the accessory is in the form of a suction collar configured to be releasably coupled to the electrical surgical device, generally adjacent to a working end thereof, and provide suction to minimize the accumulation of excess steam, fluid, and/or debris from the surgical site during the treatment procedure. The suction collar is further configured to apply a sufficient suction force to a patient's skin surrounding the surgical site to aid in stabilizing the electrosurgical device in place and maintain the working end to the electrosurgical device within the surgical site during the procedure.

Abstract: The present invention is an ablation device having a screen sphere configuration for the ablation of marginal tissue surrounding a tissue cavity. The device includes a probe having a nonconductive elongated shaft including at least one lumen therethrough and a nonconductive distal portion extending from the shaft. The nonconductive distal portion includes a plurality distal ports and a plurality of proximal ports in communication with the at least one lumen of the shaft. The device further includes an electrode array including a plurality of independent conductive wires extending through the lumen and positioned along an external surface of the nonconductive distal portion, each of the plurality of wires passes through at least an associated one of the proximal ports and through at least a corresponding one of the distal ports.

Abstract: The present invention is a minimally invasive articulating configured to be advanced through tortuous anatomy, particularly within a lung, and subsequently deliver at least two separately deployable ablation devices to a target site located at a bifurcated section of the lung (i.e., at a bronchial airway bifurcation). The pair of ablation devices are separately steerable towards respective first and second pathways extending from the bifurcation, such that each of the ablation devices can be positioned on either side of a target tissue proximate the bifurcation. The first and second ablation devices include expandable distal tips configured to transition to a deployed configuration, in which each expands in diameter and is configured to apply a degree of compression and/or RF energy emission to target lung tissue (i.e., diseased tissue, such as cancer or emphysema-related damaged tissue) for subsequent ablation thereof.

Abstract: An electrosurgical device can be delivered to a tissue site to provide supplemental sealing of vessels and/or vascular tissue that include suturing, stapling, or the like. The electrosurgical device is generally in the form of forceps, and includes an end effector assembly including opposing movable jaws. Each jaw includes a deformable pad or cushion including an electrode array positioned thereon. Each deformable cushion is configured to deliver a fluid, such as saline, during activation of the electrode array, thereby creating a virtual electrode which couples radiofrequency (RF) energy emitted from the electrode array into tissue in which the RF energy is converted into thermal energy. The deformable cushion and electrode array provide a controlled degree of compression upon the target tissue or vessel to maintain integrity of a suture, staple, or clip, as well as controlled energy emission for sealing, cauterizing, coagulating, and/or desiccating the target tissue or vessel.
