Abstract: A system for deploying needles in tissue includes a controller and a visual display. A treatment probe has both a needle and tines deployable from the needle which may be advanced into the tissue. The treatment probe also has adjustable stops which control the deployed positions of both the needle and the tines. The adjustable stops are coupled to the controller so that the virtual treatment and safety boundaries resulting from the treatment can be presented on the visual display prior to actual deployment of the system.

Abstract: A computing system obtains an information model specifying a first surgical plan for an orthopedic surgery to be performed on a patient. Additionally, the computing system modifies the first surgical plan during an intraoperative phase of the orthopedic surgery to generate a second surgical plan. During the intraoperative phase of the orthopedic surgery, a visualization device may present a visualization for display that is based on the second surgical plan.

Abstract: A system for facet joint fusion includes a cannula having a body and a navigation arm mounted to the body. The navigation arm includes a base and a plurality of individual arms mounted to the base. The navigation arm also includes one or more markers mounted to the plurality of individual arms. The system also includes an imaging system configured to identify a position of the one or more markers relative to a facet joint of a patient. The system further includes a rotary tool that is configured to mount within the cannula. The rotary tool is configured to create a void in the facet joint by way of the cannula, and the void is configured to receive a bone graft or bone growth promoting material.

Abstract: A method of directional skin tightening by fractional treatment of the skin is provided. The method includes producing a plurality of excised tissue portions in a region of skin tissue. The method further includes applying contraction or expansion tension to the region of skin tissue in at least one predetermined direction. Applying the contraction or expansion tension to the region of skin tissue promotes collagen growth and provides directional skin tightening in the region of skin tissue.

Abstract: Methods for performing non-invasive thrombolysis with ultrasound using, in some embodiments, one or more ultrasound transducers to focus or place a high intensity ultrasound beam onto a blood clot (thrombus) or other vascular inclusion or occlusion (e.g., clot in the dialysis graft, deep vein thrombosis, superficial vein thrombosis, arterial embolus, bypass graft thrombosis or embolization, pulmonary embolus) which would be ablated (eroded, mechanically fractionated, liquefied, or dissolved) by ultrasound energy. The process can employ one or more mechanisms, such as of cavitational, sonochemical, mechanical fractionation, or thermal processes depending on the acoustic parameters selected. This general process, including the examples of application set forth herein, is henceforth referred to as “Thrombolysis.”

Abstract: An endovascular method for bypassing an occlusion is disclosed. A distal end of a guidewire may be advanced through a microcatheter and into a subintimal space of an artery of a patient, where a knuckle may be formed at the distal end of the guidewire, and the guidewire with the knuckle at the distal end thereof may be advanced to the occlusion. An inflatable balloon catheter may be placed over the advanced guidewire and distal to the occlusion, and the inflatable balloon catheter may be inflated to form at least one opening in a layer separating the subintimal space from a true lumen, whereby the guidewire may traverse the at least one opening.

Abstract: A virtual endoscopic view shows a surgical area and surrounding anatomy and may also show a position of a surgical instrument in use during a surgical procedure, allowing a surgeon to virtually view the surgical area when direct viewing or actual endoscopic views are incomplete, obstructed, or otherwise unavailable or undesirable. In order to render the endoscopic view, an IGS navigation system may be configured with an observer point and an observer orientation within 3-D space based upon user inputs. A user interface for defining these points allows a user to view a virtual endoscopic preview in real-time while providing inputs, thus improving the likelihood that the resulting virtual endoscopic view is as desired by the user; and reducing time spent redefining and reconfiguring the virtual endoscopic view. The virtual endoscopic preview may provide combinations of static and dynamic images to illustrate the spatial relationship of the provided inputs.
