Abstract:
A modular furniture seating section having a pair of side rails that define a base for the section and a pair of reclining mechanisms, one mounted on each of the side rails. Each of the mechanisms includes a seat mounting link which together carry a seat frame that in turn carries the seat of the chair. An ottoman linkage is mounted on the front of the seat mounting link in each mechanism and together they carry the ottoman which moves between retracted and extended positions. The mechanisms also include a backrest linkage which carries the backrest frame that, in turn, carries the backrest. On one side only of the chair an arm panel is secured to the seat frame and moves together with the seat in fixed relationship thereto as the chair moves between upright and reclined positions. On the same side as the arm panel, a backrest side wing is mounted on the backrest frame so as to move with it. The arm panel and backrest wing are disposed on the side of the chair section which forms an end of a modular furniture grouping.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an optimized process and apparatus for more efficiently and economically carrying out the liquid-phase oxidation of an oxidizable compound. Such liquid-phase oxidation is carried out in a bubble column reactor that provides for a highly efficient reaction at relatively low temperatures. When the oxidized compound is para-xylene and the product from the oxidation reaction is crude terephthalic acid (CTA), such CTA product can be purified and separated by more economical techniques than could be employed if the CTA were formed by a conventional high-temperature oxidation process.
Abstract:
A pivoting top rail headrest for an incliner seat is provided in which the top rail is secured to the top of the fixed back and spans a gap between a fixed back and a backrest when the seat is in an upright position. The top rail pivots downwardly when the body support is moved to a reclining position, and serves as a headrest extension and covers the gap by forming a generally continuous line between the moveable backrest and the top of the fixed back.
Abstract:
A hand tool comprising a handle (30) with handle ends (10) to which may be attached tool ends (40 & 44) of predetermined sizes for performing predetermined functions. The handle ends (10) and the tool ends (40 & 44) have matching ways (13 & 47) for slidably joining the tool ends (40 & 44) to the handle ends (10). The tool ends (40 & 44) are locked to the handle ends (10) by the use of a spring loaded ball (33) and a locking ball (20) controlled by a push rod (18) having recessed areas for containing and for locking the ball (20) to the adjacent handle end ways (13) and to the tool end ways (47).
Abstract:
A convertible sofabed which can be used as a bed in its extended condition and as a sofa in its collapsed condition includes a frame which has a lower frame portion, an upper frame portion, and two upright frame portions as seen in the collapsed condition, the upright frame portions being situated at the front portion of the sofabed and interconnecting the upper and lower frame portions. A raise tube is mounted on the upright frame portions at a considerable distance downwardly from the top regions of the latter as seen in the collapsed condition. A border wire is pivotally mounted on the upper frame portion and supports a front edge portion of a cushion, while the remainder of the cushion rests on a deck resiliently mounted on the frame and serving to support a mattress. The border wire is resiliently supported on the raise tube by a plurality of substantially Z-shaped springs each of which includes one end portion that is introduced into two aligned depressions of the raise tube and passes through the interior of the raise tube between the depressions, and another end portion which is connected to the border wire by a split sleeve which is crimped around the border wire and the other end portion of the spring. A pedestal which receives the frame in its collapsed condition has an elastically yieldable top portion on which the edge portion of the cushion rests as well.
Abstract:
A portable patient support includes a platform having a rigid platform received in an interior of an end cap. Elongated rails attached to side walls of the end cap receive accessories, such as stirrups for elevating a patient's legs during insertion of brachytherapy needles for treating prostate cancer and a leg support table for comfortable support of a patient's legs during transport. The portable patient support also has a transfer device including an inflatable mattress having micro-fenestrations in a bottom sheet or a semi-rigid sliding member located beneath the platform. The platform is preferably secured to the transfer device, using straps or by receipt of the platform in built-in pocket. Alternatively, the support may include a fenestrated lower tray attached to the platform by expandable connectors to contain the transfer device. A method of preparing a patient for prostate brachytherapy using the portable patient support is described.
Abstract:
A truck bed seat comprising a framework, wherein the framework includes spaced support posts, and the spaced support posts each include telescoping legs to permit ease of mounting of the framework within a truck bed, and a chair assembly slidably adjusted between the first support post and the second support post permitting ease of positioning of the chair assembly over a wheel well of an associated truck bed.
Abstract:
Motion furniture constructed so that the arm or arms, backrest and ottoman are first upholstered and then assembled to the reclining mechanism and seat frame of the furniture, either by the furniture manufacturer, dealer, or consumer.
