    摘要: Low-alloy steels having five to eight times the atmospheric corrosion resistance of carbon steels, 80,000 psi minimum yield strengths and an overall desirable balance of mechanical properties produced directly off the hot-mill have the following chemistry: carbon, .04 percent to .10 percent; manganese, .40 percent to 1.80 percent; sulfur, .03 percent maximum; aluminum, .015 percent minimum; chromium, .90 percent to 1.20 percent copper, .30 percent to .50 percent; silicon, .50 percent to 1.20 percent; phophorus, .10 percent to .15 percent; columbium, .015 percent to .040 percent; and zirconium, .04 percent to .12 percent or a total content of rare earth elements, such as cerium and lanthanum, such that the weight ratio of total rare earths to sulfur is at least 2.8 to 1. In processing the steel to strip or plate, it is hot-rolled so as to have a finishing temperature between its A3 temperature and 1,700* F, cooled at a rate between 20* F/sec. and 45* F/sec. and coiled or piled at a temperature of 1,100* F + OR - 100* F.

    摘要: A series of sets of magnetic flux flow paths are sequentially established and passed through a ferromagnetic steel strip being rolled under tension. Each set of paths in the series acts to develop a resultant magnetic flux which is a measure of the average tension in the rolling direction in that portion of the strip through which a particular set of paths passes. The series of sets of paths are established in abutting relation across the width of the strip so that all stresses in the strip across its width are taken into account. A profile across the width of the strip of the magnitude of the applied tension forces in the strip in the rolling direction is thereby obtained, and the profile is used to determine strip flatness.

    摘要: Tuyeres and like articles employed to deliver fluids in extremely hot environments include an arrangement for their cooling comprising a conduit in the form of a coil having a plurality of turns for passing a cooling fluid through the article at high velocities. The conduit consists of an outer tubular member closed at one end to fluid flow and an inner tubular member located within the outer tubular member so as to form an annular passageway between the members. The tubular members are in fluid communication adjacent the closed end of the outer member. Cooling fluid introduced into the conduit first passes through the conduit along the annular passageway, enters the inner tubular member adjacent the closed end of the outer member, and passes through the inner tubular member to exit from the conduit.
