Abstract:
A takeout jaw for handling glass bottles includes a holder for both fixed and floating inserts. This design allows an insert to be in a fixed position when the insert is provided with a nominal thickness. When a floating insert of a lesser thickness is installed, the spring clip does not engage the floating insert, which allows the floating insert to move vertically or float. The takeout holder contains either type of insert within the pocket with retaining clips that engage chamfers formed on the inserts.
Abstract:
This invention relates to systems and methods for wireless and wired optical data communications, in particular infrared data communications using techniques borrowed ultra wideband (UWB) radio. An optical data communications receiver for receiving data encoded using optical pulse position, the receiver comprising: an optical signal reception device; a reference signal memory for storing a reference channel response signal; and a correlator coupled to said reference signal memory and to said optical signal reception device for correlating a received optical pulse with said stored reference channel response signal to determine said optical pulse position; an output coupled to said correlator to provide pulse position data for said received optical pulse.
Abstract:
A system and method uses near-field or inductively coupled UWB (Ultra Wide Band) systems to implement high speed electrical data connectors without the need for a direct electrical connection. A data connector system has a first connector portion and a second connector portion. The first connector portion comprises a UWB transmitter with a data input and a first UWB coupling element driven by the UWB transmitter. The second connector portion comprises a second UWB coupling element and a UWB receiver with a data output. The UWB receiver has an input from the second UWB coupling element. The data connector system has a connected configuration in which the first and second UWB coupling elements are within an operative range of one another, such that the coupling elements are inductively coupled to one another to permit data to be transferred from the data input to the data output, and a disconnected configuration in which the first and second connector portions are separated by greater than the operative range.
Abstract:
This invention generally relates to methods and apparatus for radio frequency communications over mains power cabling and other wiring, in particular communications at microwave frequencies. Embodiments of the invention are particularly suitable for ultra wideband (UWB) communications. A method of communicating a microwave signal having a frequency of 1 GHz or higher using a cable comprising at least one conductor, the method comprising: positioning a transmit antenna at a transmission point on said cable at a distance from said cable to couple said microwave signal into said cable; driving said transmit antenna with said microwave signal to induce onto said cable a propagating wave to propagate along said cable; positioning a receive antenna to receive an electromagnetic signal generated by said propagating wave; receiving a version of said microwave signal using said receive antenna
Abstract:
A low drag surface construction utilizes a plurality of longitudinally extending, parallel, spaced apart linear vortices extending transversely of the free stream to reduce drag between the free stream and the surface. The surface is provided with stabilizing means which retains the vortices in their relationship with one another but causes them to traverse the surface in the same direction as the free stream but at approximately half the speed. The stabilizing produces a regular variation in boundary flow across the surface and may comprise dynamic means such as sequenced jets of fluid escaping from apertures in the surface.
